Feb-02-02, 01:46 AM (EST) "Tricks of the trade?" LAST EDITED ON Feb-02-02 AT 02:20 AM (EST)Hello, new guy here.
After playing around for a few weeks, I've got a few (hopefully simple) questions...1. I admire all of you who put such nice routes together with the very buggy route editor. You must have more patience and time than I do ;) However, I regularly have problems with the routes, even though I appear to have all the pieces I need, like Underground in Hoogdam, Waldshut in Underland 2.0, and other random places. As a test, I ran the streke aalsmeer-silz activity on the arsen/aalsmeer on two machines at the same time (with different CPU,OS and Video Cards) and they crash at the _exact_ same place, about 5 minutes into route. Route editor often crashes just wandering around in the routes as well. What is going on here in the routes, and how can I fix it?2. The unhelpful "email microsoft" dialog box is very annoying, I much rather get dumped into the MSVC debugger. Is there a way to turn the dr watson clone off and turn on something more useful in determining what went wrong?3. I'm really chewing up disk space with the file copying. Can someone give me an example of how the alias files work and how to implement them? Thanks in advance,
MichaelPS. Here is the best trick I've found so far...From another website I learned that Ctrl-Alt-Shift-9 toggles on and off the train car tracking when in the exterior view modes. Very nice! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------In the sound directory are a series of file with sms extensions
using WORDPAD to edit these files you need to map the path of all the wave files in all of these .sms files as above "../../scotsman/sound/wavefilename" note the excert below this file is straight from the scotsman folder. You will only have to do this once for each class of loco in MSTS ie once you have done the dash 9 you can copy the sound directory containing the aliased sound files the SMS file only to any engine that uses those sounds the cabview files can be done the same way too, the file extension there is .cvf 1 of in the cabview for the scotsman about 7 files in the sound directory. If you already have a loco with alaised files you can copy its sound and cabview folders to which ever loco you want to use them with.Once you have done this (I would try one first backup the sound and cabview files) place your modified sms and cvf files in the correct directory and you can delete all of the wav and ace files from that 1 train folder (donot delete any original MSTS files) or trouble will be your buddy.
Any way I hope you understand that, you do not need to modify any other files with in the train directory as the train will look for the sms or cvf file and then those files will look for the sound or image files as long as you do not rename the sms or cvf file all things should work.Peter
