Feb-02-02, 04:05 AM (EST) 1. "RE: CTA Boeing-Vetrol cars on the L1 route!!!!!!! Pics in message!" BIGGEST question!... How tight of a turn will handle? I figured the problem with the MSTS 2000 cars to be the distance the trucks are from the ends. Will this new car pull an 8 car train through a 75 foot radius curve?-Chris

Feb-02-02, 10:00 AM (EST) 3. "RE: CTA Boeing-Vetrol cars on the L1 route!!!!!!! Pics in message!" Way to go!! We finally have El cars that look like El cars. Now ... not to be ungrateful, but ... how about the old green and white cars, the non-air conditioned ones we used to suffocate in during the summer, while the lucky south siders got the new cars with air cooling? I know this hpapened because I lived in Chicago during the transition. There might even be some of the old greenies sitting around in the yards. I haven't installed L1 yet: Is there a Skokie Swift line in the route and is there a changeover from outside third rail to overhead and back again? Used to stand at Crawford and the Swift line, just to watch it - at night the lights go out in the cars for just a moment during the changeover. Great stuff!! Way back when, the Swift drivers used to roll into the Skokie station with pheasant plastered on the front of the cars, from what I heard they got to take them home for dinner, too.Bing

A true test of cornering couldn't be found on the L1 route unfortunatly, because all of that has been exagerated so that the series 2000 cars would fit through them. The best way to test them is to make a 75 foot radius turn, and try to fit them through. Actually, the closest you can get is an 83' 4" turn (just did the math) in MSTS, but you might try that.-Chris

Feb-02-02, 06:42 PM (EST) 7. "RE: CTA Boeing-Vetrol cars on the L1 route!!!!!!! Pics in message!" Yuk.....I'm going to fix the side of my 2400 car quick...the rounded shape looks great. You won't catch me doing the 4000 series, but I'll do the 2000 if someone can provide me perfect side and front views. Say, what's series number of the ribbed-side MK-built units?Kurt Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Feb-03-02, 05:34 PM (EST) 9. "RE: CTA Boeing-Vetrol cars on the L1 route!!!!!!! Pics in message!" LAST EDITED ON Feb-03-02 AT 05:38 PM (EST)quick trivia: why are the sides of the cars bulged out like that? The width between the track and platform only allows trains to be 8' 8", so when the CRT was building the 5000 series, they wanted to expand passenger capacity, thus they widened above the platform level, to approx 9' 4".Also... I'm not sure of the "MK" units you are talking about?
Edit: MK - Morrison-Knudsen?, that's the CTA's newest series to date, the 3200 series. Also, is it possible to change the destination signs in a similar way to changing the marker lights, or to make a seperate controlled animaton for that, so as to make a set of cars suitable to more than one route?-Chris
