Showing the address above, and not telling us what sort of hassle it would be to be forced to join and pay a fee of $7.00 if you want to see that photo, was a little thoughtless I reckon. Especially if someone lives halfway around the world, and the $7.00 translates into about three times the American equivalent !! Perhaps you were trying to recruit new callers perhaps ? A warning of this would have saved me wasting my time going there for nothing I think.Regards...Jim McDermott

Jan-29-02, 09:47 PM (EST) 3. "RE: What are these triangles on MSTS ??" Triangles are used by DirectX to draw the screen. I hope we are talking about the same triangles.Any software that accesses the Direct3D subsystem draws the objects as a series of triangles. They can be individual triangles, fans or strips and they are assembled and textured to create the scenery. The reason triangles are used is that 1)you can create any 3D shape you want by assembling triangles, 2)any three points that are not linear represent a plane (whereas 4 or 5 points may or may not be coplanar)and 3) Triangles are the only shape you can draw without rasterizing. Use six or seven triangles in a fan with goraurd shading and you have a mountain built by using t+1 points and one or two generic bitmaps (Very, very fast). A tunnel can then be produced with a dozen or so triangles in a strip using 2t+2 points and one bitmap. These triangles are always on; you can't shut them off. This also explains why a person wants a video card with a high polygon transfer rate. A single scene in MSTS can consist of several thousand triangles. These triangles, in a sloppy game, are just dumped into the depth buffer for the video card to sort out. This can cause flickering and scenery to shift around as the card tries to keep up. I hope that we are talking about the same triangles. Either that or I just did a lot of typing for nothing.Regards,
Russ
