Jun-18-01, 02:10 PM (EST) "Train Keeps Decoupling" In Marias Pass the train keeps decoupling when I go over one particular switch, even when I go over it very slowly. Does anyone
have any ideas on how i can keep this from happening? Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-18-01, 04:31 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" My problem was similar but it was simply a case of the train breaking in two. Are you running a long consist? Sometimes the harmonics of the train simply cause an uncoupling (a la prototype). Try running East of Cutbank over some really, really rough track. You must watch for low spots over switches and high spots over grade crossings. This is so prototypical it is uncanny. Take it from me. I've operated over some rough track on the old EL Buffalo line. It took 6 hours one time to cover 25 miles of track.
Seriously, the spot on Marias pass might simply be a bad crossover. Or poor switch assembly on the activity. Have you tried it with different consists? I can't get trains running in "Snow" due to problems (so I'm told on the forum) with my video card.. Oh well. It will all be worked out by all the great guys troubleshooting out there. Enjoy the ride. It is so real in the cab it is frightening!!!!

Jun-18-01, 04:33 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Added suggestion........when reporting a problem.....make a written note of the milepost location. It helps the rest of us to troubleshoot. Sorry for the rambling messages.

Jun-18-01, 06:44 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Joe, there is a problem in the way the track was laid by KUJU at the road crossing east of Cut Bank and on the north track at the crossovers at MP 1152.something east of Java. Until I edited ALL my .wag files from 1 to 5 per directions in this thread, I ALWAYS uncoupled at these spots, since then no problem. By the way, what can you tell us about the Juice Train derailment at Ocala yesterday?Kent in Spring Hill FL, just 15 miles from the S-LineTrain Keeps Decoupling – image 1

Jun-19-01, 10:59 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Thanks for the feedback. Ah yes, the juice train. Nothing major by catastrophe standards. A lot of bent metal and spilled juice. I imagine some of the folks around here may have more than enough OJ for months to come......unless it spoils. Cleanup underway............no detours!
By the way......where did you download the neat CSX units...or are they your own work?

Joe, would you consider joing our Yahoo e-mail list, serails at Yahoo groups? We have a lot of folks interested in the S-line and would like to have someone from that part of the line join our discussions of Florida railfanning. Jun-18-01, 06:29 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Seems this is a problem for some and not for others. I had it as well and saw a post a while back that figured out how to stop it.Edit the .eng file of the locomotives and .wag files of the freight cars with Wordpad not Notepad. Scroll down to the line that starts with break and change the number 1 "before the ." on both numbers to a 5.example;Wagon ( GP38

Jun-28-01, 04:47 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Of all the "fixes" offered. This one is the most direct and least trouble prone. I hate having to go into the root directories and change scenic devices. I'll wait for a CD with all these fixes on them. For now, changing the value on the coupler break line to "5" is the line of least resistence. And, it works like a charm.

Jun-29-01, 03:31 AM (EST) 12. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Changing the coupler brake values is the easyist way to make the problem go away but It's not fixing the cause!Treat the disease, not the symptom!or whatever... Wurger Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-28-01, 04:23 PM (EST) 9. "RE: Train Keeps Decoupling" Here is how I fixed it:I was playing around with the Route Editor and seem to have fixed the problems I was having with broken couplers at:
MP1106.5 PIAGAN
MP1152.2 MARIAS
MP? West end of bridge at CUTBANK

Make sure you make a copy of the USA2 folder first so you can restore if you have problems.

For PIAGAN and MARIAS do the following:Open Route Editor

Go to the location

Use the Select button in the Mod window and highlight the MP sign that is near the crossovers right on the edge of the ballast (it will turn red).
Left click (it will turn to wireframe).

Use the Move button in the Mod window and move the MP AWAY from the track by 10 feet or so (guess the distance).

Use the select button again to un-select the MP (it should turn back to a solid.

For the bridge at CUTBANK do the following:

Open Route Editor

Go to the location

Use the Select button in the Mod window and highlight the yellow arrow object that are at the ends of the bridge (it will turn red).

Left click (it will turn to wireframe).

Press the delete key (this removes these sound object arrows that make the track sound different).
NOTE:
This will cause the track sounds to stay the same
when you cross the bridge (it won't sound so hollow).
If that sound is important to you, then deal with
broken couplers

Do this for each set of yellow arrows at each end of the bridge (delete all of them).

Save the files and enjoy a Marias pass that works!

If anyone knows the paticular file that gets revised, post a corrected version that can be downloaded (if it's not too big).

Good luck,
Wurger

Whilst running the Scotsman last night the engine came uncoupled from the tender. Very strange looking back down the track watching the tender and carriages dissapear into the distance. Is this a bug?Kimey Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
