Jan-19-02, 05:29 PM (EST) "Anybody else having this sound glitch?" With one locomotive in the consist all sounds play fine. With two or more, the crossing bells blip momentarily, then silence until the "4" trigger (when the locos are about 50ft beyond the gate) then blip again. Sounds are usually OK at the back end of the train. I tried running singles and doubles light past the crossing with Dash9s and GP38s and it's repeatable.I'm running a Soundblaster Live! card. Doesn't appear to matter whether the sound slider in the options is at half or full right position.Any thoughts?krswen Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-21-02, 01:23 PM (EST) 2. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" LAST EDITED ON Jan-21-02 AT 01:28 PM (EST)The .sms files define the sounds that are played by different streams. Each stream is given a Priority level, 0 = lowest, 10 = highest. In the sims original .sms's loco's have high priorities - 5 to 8, environment has low - 2 to 4, in game sounds (ie beeps, 'ok to depart' etc), have very high at 10, so they are always heard. Each sound card must have a limiting number of streams it can simultaneouly play. One work around would be to stop your helper engines from playing sound, thus releasing more streams for environment sounds. Won't say anymore unless there are more replies asking for further details. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-21-02, 10:29 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" Well ..... upon further investigation it is only happening with the default Dash9 and GP38, both of which I updated with Justin's new models. I recall screwing something up back when I did the upgrade. Apparently I've corrupted some obscure linkage for more than one loco. All my newer download locos work fine with two ... even those that alias the default dash9 and GP38 sounds.I'm running a Pentium 4 1.3G processor.

Jan-21-02, 09:14 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" I was trying out the new SD70M with the VIA passenger cars on Marias v3 last night and I noticed exactly the same thing! I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I'll look in the control panel later and see if I can do something about it.

Jan-21-02, 09:28 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz and my sound is fine, I always hear the crossings and helpers, and the cars makeing the annoying sqeeky noises, maby some of your "Santa Cruz Control Pannel" settings are messed up? I have 2 Speaker, Digital Out on the "Main" tab, in the "Synth" tab i have "Voices Maximum Hardware Notes" set to 64, and "Maximum Software Notes" Set at 1024. (sounds like this might be where your problem is)My "Santa Cruz Game Port" Driver is ver. 4.08.00.0400 and are the original drivers that came with the system. If you want more details on this just reply and ask, but i dont want to sit here and blab like an idiot if your not interested.Trevor Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-22-02, 02:01 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" Trevor, thanks for your comments. My settings are "Digital 4.1" and "Digital Out" and my maximum hardware/software notes were set to the default of 32/32. I've got a Pentium 4 1.9 GHz and am running Windows XP Pro. I'm using Santa Cruz driver version 5.12.1.4112.I changed the maximum hardware/software notes values to 64/1024 but this did not help.I played around a bit more. I tried the VIA trainset (four locos) again and heard the blip of sound before and after the crossing. I then tried a consist with 4 Dash 9s, and got the same thing. Then I tried 3 Dash 9s and the crossing bell sounded fine. So, it seems to only be a problem with four (or more, I guess) locos, so I'm not really worried. But, in the other thread the guy seemed to think it was because he needed a faster computer. I've got a pretty nice new system, so I'd like to think there is another reason! Jan-22-02, 10:30 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Anybody else having this sound glitch?" Cybersky;I guess I don't need to upgrade. I was thinking the fix to this prob. was an upgrade from pentIII 1g to PentIV or Athlon 1.8 or better (I originally posted this problem on a different thread), but you have the exact problem with four or more engines, it's not the processor. FYI, the problem is the same rather I use a Turtle Beach sound card or Creative Live 5.1. I think schefhwil is right regarding sound priorities, and I think regardless of hardware, the program is limited to a certain number of simu sounds. An example is 3dtrains pro series F7's. I bought the beautiful Santa Fe, and realized there were no dynamic brakes sounds outside the cab. I tried to tweak the sms file by adding an outside dyn wave, and got an error something to the effect there were too many sounds in the file. I posted a question on 3dtrains support forum, they responded and said they would check into it, but I haven't heard anything.Brad Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
