Jan-11-02, 04:56 PM (EST) "Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" 'Very disappointed with Abacus' scenery add-on. There's very little change in the 75 mile route. I've never seen Murphy City, so it may be a hole in the wall, but it's absent and there's very little scenery to break the monotony of the route. I really think they could have done a better job of it... Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

There is also terrain spilling onto the tracks, tracks that are airborne and not touching the planet, etc... The locos and rolling stock are quite nice but the route, for a professional job, leaves something to be desired.....

Jan-11-02, 10:05 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" Murphy City is nothing more than a few MOW tracks and some out building. As for the very little scenery changes well..... that’s why its called the big woods. Scenery does not change much up in these parts of Minnesota and for that matter Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. From my opinion it is as accurate as Train Simulator will practically allow. Jan-12-02, 00:50 AM (EST) 4. "RE: Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" Howdy Ho, I normally over look some these types of things, cause everyone is entitled to an opinion. However, I must address that Murphy City is as acurately modeled as I modeled the Dock.http://terraserver.homeadvisor.msn.com/image.asp?S=10&T=1&X=3129&Y=26317&Z=15&W=2
This link will take you to a terraserver pic of Murphy CIty.LOL, I rembered when I started the LTV Route, at First I was only going to do 20 at the most 30 miles of track and purposely shorten the track so it wouldnt be a long boring spread, not that it is boring, but truth said, even the people that work will tell you its a long haul.
But then, that was what made me want to goahead and model all of the route. So you the user could get a feel of what the LTV mining people go through each day.You are right, the scenery doesnt change in the Sim, but then again, we have Movies, and pictures along the entire route, and guess what, it didnt change or I would have put it in.
Note, in the tera pick you will to the left and behind some trees a Row of houses, since these in life arent visible from the track and since they for the most part arent standing any more, we optted to not put them in.You can imagine my surprise when I found out that the big city I got to build was or is only 3 to 4 buildings. But then again, perhaps they call it Murphy City for fun, of that I am not sure. But none the less its there just as it is for them everyday.
Also, keep in mind, the Route was not the main Focus the Trains were. We descided to do a Route as a Bonus, and thats what it is a Bonus. However, if you will take the time to really look at all the content that when into and the enourmous undergoing to lay track on a 2% to 3% grade for 8 miles and the 1000's of trees lol its hardly just a bonus, it was a real under taking.Could there have been more? YEP! Thank Goodess we have an editor to expand the route as much as the user wants.
Well, I hope that you enjoy it, we enjoyed working on it.Mark
3DTrains.comP.S. If ya want content, and you want change in scenry, then you might want to keep your eyes open, cause we are working on 2 Routes, one of which I can assure you will have more content than any route presently out there, at least I am trying real hard LOL
Cheers!!!!

Jan-12-02, 03:39 AM (EST) 5. "RE: Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" LAST EDITED ON Jan-12-02 AT 03:43 AM (EST)Hi Mark,I have travelled the route and indeed personally I found it a litte bit boring, but that's the place where the route is situated, it is all trees there! My thought is that it is a very good job of routebuilding, nice route. And those new real 3D trees are far better then the Kuju things. I hope you bring those trees in a free package, many route builders can benefit from those trees. And about flying tracks, ground on the tracks and that kind of things, they can hardly be avoided due to the clumsy job KUJU/MS did with the Route Editor.I will say to all those that have criticism in this way: go out, build a route by yourself and then we are talking again. The only thing, I am real missing are siding names. Now it is hard to create Pickup- and Dropoff Activities for the route. Thanks again for this very good bonus.Dick van den Hoven

Jan-12-02, 07:31 AM (EST) 6. "RE: Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" If the real route looked like the sim I would be buying some land yesterday. The track goes through the "hundred mile swamp", really! Nuff said? One problem I've had is going through the east switch at Trow while going east. Derail or broken coupler every time. Tried going fast, slow, throw the switch, can't make it.Suggestions? Thanks, Bob Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 11:34 AM (EST) 7. "RE: Where's Murphy City? (LTV scenery add-on)" I have the same trouble at that switch too. But, try it AT NIGHT. I was westbound to the plant at 4 AM. Just before the switch, I got a series of error messages (files failed to open), my screen froze and I had to reboot. This happened 6 times, I never got the the switch and, so I gave up!! Let me know if you find any solution (short of a store refund, that is)to this flaw.I like the route and I realize it's all the same scenery. That's why it's important to have mileposts or siding signs or some markers to let you know where you are... Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
