Jan-09-02, 11:33 PM (EST) "E8 repainters, please do the B units!" Look at all these cool E8A type units with no matching B's. With a little extra effort they can be turned into a beautiful set.
Pretty simple cut/paste/clone job.

Jan-10-02, 03:12 PM (EST) 3. "RE: E8 repainters, please do the B units!" This is going to be a problem from a standpoint of wanting to be prototypical. (Like that's ever stopped us before! )First of all, several of the roads that purchased E8s didn't buy any B-units to begin with. The Erie, the Lackawanna (and by merger EL), the Katy, the Southern, and the Texas & Pacific all are examples of roads that purchased E8As, but didn't buy E8Bs. On the other hand Conrail only used E8As in its executive fleet. Any E8Bs that it might have inherited (Penn Central was the only CR predecessor that had them!) never made it to any Conrail paint scheme that I'm aware of.Finally, some roads that purchased E8s (and E9s) still had sizeable fleets of E3, E4, E5, E6, and/or E7 B-units on hand in faily decent condition, so they only purchased A-units and ran them with the older B-units. The Florida roads (ACL, Seaboard), I believe, are some examples of this phenomenon. I suspect that CB&Q, NYC and SP might have been, too.Take care!Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-10-02, 07:13 PM (EST) 4. "RE: E8 repainters, please do the B units!" Thank's for the facts, Henry. I was just about to to start painting! Found a shot of the NY Central E's and damned if it wasn't an A-A!!
I think this may be the second time you set me straight.
I'll be shuttin' up now! LOL Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-10-02, 08:23 PM (EST) 5. "RE: E8 repainters, please do the B units!" I have looked and haven't found any photos of E8B units in the NYC scheme. Did the Central actually own any? Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-11-02, 12:08 PM (EST) 8. "RE: E8 repainters, please do the B units!" No problem, I've had a bit of time to study such things. I used to be a custom painter of HO scale models.Of course, if you think you'd enjoy seeing an NYC E8B unit, go for it! It's your railroad and you get to deside what's "right". And there may be folks out there that agree with you. Henry Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-12-02, 01:56 AM (EST) 9. "RE: E8 repainters, please do the B units!" I'm sorry to say that GM&O had no E-B units, so I wont be doing any. I will be doing an F-B unit as GM&O used them in all services...including between 2 E units....steam generator equiped of course....Paul Fowler Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
