Jan-02-02, 11:06 AM (EST) "F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" Train Artisan is putting the finishing touches on the F7 Final Release. Not only have we overhauled the model and the cabview for more realism, but we've also recorded our own all new F unit sounds! It's a wild ride now! And even better, it's all for FREE!
We'll be releasing whole F7 trainsets
First up is the Santa Fe Super Chief....
Also, we'll soon make an announcement about one of the Major Railroad companies that we'll be working with to bring both past and present locomotives to MSTS.
We'll also have a new passenger car set for the VIA - complete with dome car...

When i took the Zephyr from Denver to Oakland in '69 it was a Rio Grande train. Here's a Zephyr shot from '53. What's up with the Western Pacific replies?

Jan-02-02, 09:08 PM (EST) 11. "RE: F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" The DRGW Zepher would have to be my favourite pass train.
Now if I am not wrong This train would have been operated by two different Companies?? Which would mean an engine change somewhere along the tracks? I reckon that would make a magnificent activity, with heavy freights passing through etc etc.
F7's out of Chigago, a change to Alcos
What sort of steamer would be crossing? cab forwards
What part of the route would be best simulated?

Jan-03-02, 03:45 AM (EST) 15. "RE: F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" I was just teasing a bit....
The California Zephyr was a joint project by three railroads.
Western Pacific (WP), Rio Grande (D&RGW) and Burlington (CB&Q).
The cars ran all the way, only the engines was changed en route. There were also through car service to New York via PRR and NYC."The route of the California Zephyr covered 2,525 miles and took an average of 2 ½ days to complete. The CB&Q handled the train from Chicago to Denver, Colorado where it was then handed over to the D&RGW. The D&RGW would then handle it until reaching Salt Lake City, Utah where it was received by the WP for its final leg into California. Scheduling intentionally placed the trains in the grandeur of the Feather River and Rocky mountains during daylight hours, while the Nevada deserts and plains states were crossed at night." (quote from http://calzephyr.railfan.net/) There's a lot of info about the CZ there. This is Clio Trestle near Portola, CA.
Hey riograndedude, have you seen this one before? Unusual livery....

Jan-03-02, 08:37 AM (EST) 16. "RE: F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" Nalle,
Thanks for setting me straight. I was just a lad when I took the
Zephyr but I still remember the thrill of experiencing the West for the first time, gliding through in stainless steel.
Can't wait to get my hands on that dome car!
I'm going to check out that site after work.

Jan-02-02, 01:05 PM (EST) 3. "RE: F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" By the way...sorry if this question sounds dumb, but what does VIA actually stand for? Is it an independent railroad, or only a "trademark" of some kind?D.M."Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges" Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jan-02-02, 08:48 PM (EST) 10. "RE: F7 Super Chief news from Train Artisan" VIA is the Canadian passenger railroad, created as aCrown COrporation by or government when both CP and CN wanted to get out of the passenger business.. Think of it as the Amtrak of the frozen north.. Offically its VIA Rail, but its usually just VIA
The name was intended to get people to travel "via rail"
cheers

Interesting...thanks for the info. Do they also continue to run the "Canadian" express (or what was its name?)? I remember seeing a TV report about it a while ago...

TA are the best! At last a beautiful VIA coach and I hope
the new sound of the F7 will allow us to hear the real horn sound of Canadian F7 engines.BTW the horn sound of Trainz demo is exactly what I'm talking about if you need an example.
