Dec-30-01, 11:03 PM (EST) "TS on XP crashes?" Well I upgraded to XP today on my PC I got just before XP came out with disk sent by HP. MSTS wouldn't run so I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it ran. Went to dinner and came back and now it doesn't work it again!!!! It crashes right after the initial KUJU stuff. Only thing I did was install my scanner between it working and not. I really find it hard to believe that did it.Any clues on what I should try?P4 1.5

Dec-30-01, 11:33 PM (EST) 1. "RE: TS on XP crashes?" The XP install probably installed the XP nvidia graphics drivers. Try downloading the latest nvidia drivers from there web site. I've been running MSTS on XP for 5 months with no problem.Paul Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-30-01, 11:46 PM (EST) 2. "RE: TS on XP crashes?" Dave,
I've also been running MSTS on XP with an almost identical system as yours, except with a GeForce2 TI. I had downloaded the latest drivers from Nvidia but suffered the same crash as you have. I reverted back to 5.13.01.2183 and is working fine.
It seems as if all most all the problems we've had have been video drivers.LuckWaiting for Decatur, my hometown. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-31-01, 00:29 AM (EST) 3. "Ummm Fixed now and don't know why!!!!!!!!" LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-01 AT 00:34 AM (EST)First, I went and uninstalled again and removed the folder (may not have done this the last time) and reinstalled and now it runs! So now after putting something new on, I check to see if it still runs. So far my side winder 2 and FS2002 didn't cause a problem.Wabash, I was in Decatur this last week visiting Mom and Dad. Took over a 100 photos around Decatur in order to create custom objects in TSM. Emphasis was on bridges (I think MSTS lacks good midwestern bridges) and buildings. Like at ADM, Cateripiller, Firestone and around the IC yard. PaulD, I used the drivers on the disk I got from HP for this update. I got my PC just before XP and got the update from HP for 29.99. I checked the information and it says the driver date is 8/16/2001 and is version 1.4.6.2. My card is the nvidia geforce 2 mx 200 (HP). Do you think I should go to the nvidia site and get new drivers?LaterDavid Klemm

I hade same problem. It wasn't working, so I gave up trying and played FS2002.
Then 2 weeks ago, I tried installing it in different directory than befor and it worked. Go figure.

The 23.11 which are current on the Nvidia site are very good with XP and MSTS. They are packaged as a exe file. Just run it and XP will install it correctly, no need to remove your existing drivers first.Dell Dimension PIII 1ghz

Dec-31-01, 01:45 PM (EST) 6. "HELP, Not really fixed yet!" Ok, I've installed the new nvidia drivers and they didn't help or hurt. I can run TS a couple times and then bam, it doesn't work. I have to remove it and reinstall it to get it working again. Very annoying. Again, I'm on XP with a nvidia 32meg card, soundblaster sound card. Any clue on things I should change?ThanksDavid Klemm

Dec-31-01, 02:17 PM (EST) 7. "RE: HELP, Not really fixed yet!" Re-reading your post, you stated that you just upgraded to Windows XP. Did you do a clean install, (meaning a complete reformatting of the hard drive) or did you upgrade over the top of Windows ME?There are many posts on the manufactures PC boards strongly recommending against doing a simple upgrade, the highly recommended way is to do a clean install. I also tried an upgrade over Windows 98SE initially, but reversed course and did a complete clean installation after running into problems.I also am using a Nvidia based card and SoundBlaster sound card and MSTS runs great under Windows XP. It's starting to sound like the problem is with the installation of Windows XP. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-31-01, 03:28 PM (EST) 8. "RE: HELP, Not really fixed yet!" I did an upgrade from ME. Bought the PC in August just before the release of XP. HP says they built the PC for XP and they did send the with latest drivers and all.Just got done with some flying on Flight Sim 2002. It by the way runs great as does everything else. I've been flooding MS with error reports. Figure does no good to not send, maybe sending will result in a fix. Also have messaged MS. I'd really would rather not format and start from scratch. So much to install.Well off to building things for MSTS. Just can't see them and how they look!!!David Klemm

HP says they built the PC for XP and they did send the with latest drivers and all. Sending in the error reports is a good idea, Microsoft does use them for creating hot fixes. I was in the same position after initially upgrading to Windows XP from Win 98SE in October. After a few days I bit the bullet and did a full re-install to a freshly formated NTFS disk. It has worked perfectly ever since. After the many tech posts I've been reading on the hardware forums, a clean install is the only sure way for trouble free Windows XP. Upgrading over Win98 and WinME seems to be causing a lot of reported problems after the installation.
