Dec-18-01, 08:32 AM (EST) "What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" I am aware of a couple of routes being developed for the American South, but I'm sure there's much going on that we don't know about. Also, how about locomotives and rolling stock for southern lines? I see what's been posted, but I'm interested in hearing about what's being developed.I am a Georgian and would love to see the Southern, Central of Georgia, Seabord, ACL, Georgia RR, A&WP, L&N, and NC&StL lines represented in terms of routes and equipment. The old state-owned Western and Atlantic mainline from Atlanta to Chattanooga is being developed, according to a posting on this site, as well as the SCL project in Florida. Who else is out there? What are you working on?Our minority status as Southerners interested in our region's railroads once again seems to mean that we will be overwhelmed by a surplus of Northeastern and Western U.S. product development while we dream of running CG "Big Apples", Southern PS4s, and the like rolling down their home roads! Southerners, let your voices be heard! Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-18-01, 11:04 AM (EST) 2. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" Savannah would be a very interesting location to model for MSTS! S&A, CG, ACL, SAL!!! Switching along the Savannah River! If I were more capable with the route editor, I'd give it a go, but that thing stumps me.Lee Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-18-01, 05:51 PM (EST) 3. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" There was a guy doing the Gainsville Midland Road. It runs from Gainsville over to Athens. Connects with NS and is now run by CSX (former SAL) out of Athens. Havent heard any updates for awhile. I hope to do the CSX Abbeville Sub but the Train Artisan work doesn't leave alot of time to play with route editor.

Dec-18-01, 06:06 PM (EST) 4. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" I live on Lake Allatoona and I'm slowly working on the CSX line from Atlanta to Chattanooga. I'm using DEM data and still trying to get things coordinated.
I read in the locamotive design forum that somebody is working on The General.
I might try to make a pre-'40's and a post-'40's version.
It's slow going for me, because this stuff is all new. I still haven't figured out the "MarkMaker" program, but I'm working on it.
Hopefully, I'll have something to show in a week or two.
Later,
Hawk

Dec-18-01, 06:46 PM (EST) 5. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" The GM would be great, especially if we could get someone interested in developing a decapod for MSTS. Let's keep the discussion of southeastern and Georgia routes and equipment going. While I may not have the skills to create, I can certainly support those who do with my knowledge of railroading in the area and my collections of books, etc. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-19-01, 10:15 AM (EST) 11. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" Hey KinnamonI am very interested in doing South AL in the pre-40's around the Mobile area, especially the M&O, forerunner to the GM&O, including the state docks freight with a branch line to the gulf mostly for freight and for seafood and passenger service to Bayou La Batre, Coden.Do you have info and books on this area?

Dec-19-01, 10:40 AM (EST) 13. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" The only book I have that might be of use would be a general book on the railroads of Alabama. I don't have any MO or GMO stuff. Sounds like an interesting area to model! Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-18-01, 10:57 PM (EST) 7. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" I am working on (albeit very slowly) the murphy branch line in the mountains of north carolina, between asheville and the tennessee border. I just started working with the DEM's again after a long time away.I am racing my father, who is modeling parts of the same line in N scale. We'll see wins! Dec-19-01, 08:40 AM (EST) 9. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" Great to hear from all of you! I knew there were some fellow Southerners lurking about! Perhaps in the future we will have enough interest to develop an MSTS site/list for those of us interested in the railroads of the Southern U.S. I have posted a request for Train Artisan to do the SR PS-4 and a Crescent set to add to their outstanding roster of equipment, and I'm pleased to report that one of the team members expressed interest in the idea. We'll see what comes of it! It'll most likely be lower on their list than the SP Daylight set, but we can always hope.He also inquired about the Southern's Mountain types, and I promptly replied with an excerpt from Prince's book on the USRA TS-1s. He was interested in their livery! Perhaps we'll see some SR repaints of their upcoming Mountains.BTW, where are the CG boxcars mentioned in one of the posts? Enocell? I have seen in the files the "blimp" or "football" car, as a 40ft. car though, but I have not seen any other CG equipment. Am I unaware of another download site, or was this private issue stuff? Thanks,
Lee

>the CofG 40ft box refered to is the football box, repainted by 'enocell' and posted to train-sim in august. just renumbered his box into half a dozen or so different reporting numbers of the same box for my own use. also did the same for the VGN box and RFP box. sorry about the confusion. my first experiences with a photo editor, but am learning.... well some might call it learning. its a challenge when i'm about as bright around this repainting stuff as a 7 watt bulb. Dec-19-01, 10:31 AM (EST) 12. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" Well, you could do what other minorities have done, and start modelling and route construction yourself....I'm a Swede and there's only about 9 million of us yet we have a load of Swedish MSTS stuff including a mighty fine route that will soon be released. While other more populous nations have no MSTS stuff of their own at all. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-19-01, 01:32 PM (EST) 14. "RE: What about Southern U.S.A. Routes, etc?" I left Alabama many years ago for Arizona, but I would still love to have a route that includes my home town - Huntsville. One of the first models that I built for MSTS was the historic depot there (free download at my site).I think there are several people interested in steel mill routes, Birmingham would be a natural.Ron

I will tell all you Southern Railroad fans that there will be a very special suprise in the new Train Artisan 4-8-2 package for ya. Along with the Southern Ps-4 Alco's theres one variation I'd love to have, Southern had one of them Streamlined to pull a short section of the Tenneseean. Merry X-mas!!
