Dec-17-01, 12:45 PM (EST) "Important. Coupling. The lost secret." Hi All.
I found it again. Not only a loco has direction.Every car has also front and rear.
If you make a consits it`s automaticly correct. Not so, you make consist without loco and don`t notice it in an activity. If you put cars on a track, the circle, the pseudo loco, show you what is the front. From this direction a loco must come and couple or you get problems.
That`s important for routedeveloper and the secret why not a turntable is working.
If you want drive back to the other direction, you must turn the whole train, not only the loco!!
Turnloop or 3 angle, the whole train must through!
If you turn only the loco to couple on the other trainside, the loco couples rear, but the cars in front.
It`s the same, if the loco comes to frontcoupling.
Mostly after turn the loco, I have had problems. Not more now.
I`m a old man,my English is very bad, but I hope, you all understand, what I mean.cheers nandi Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-17-01, 01:01 PM (EST) 1. "RE: Important. Coupling. The lost secret." Ummm... I'm pretty sure this is not correct. I've done a whale of a number of activities and this does not bear out. I frequently throw down consists without regard to the direction of the circle and coupling works fine. What is repeatable though, is the front coupler bug. By this I mean, if you choose to go at the consist no matter which end of the consist the circle is, you'll encounter problems, if you use the front coupler. If what you said was true then on average your front coupler would work as effectively as the rear coupler on average 50% of the time (give and take based on how often the activity developer ignores which direction the circle is facing). On my front coupler activities, no matter which way the consist is facing I can expect two things:1) approach the consist at 2mph or under
2) max speed is 17mphRich Garber Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

I would have to concur with the esteemed Mr.GarberOn my BNSF Tanktrain activity, for example, coupleing to the broken down train (which is just a static consist with an engine) at speeds higher than 2mph will result in derailment and that Max speed sounds about right also.Longhairedwizard Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-17-01, 03:16 PM (EST) 3. "RE: Important. Coupling. The lost secret." I keep telling you guys, derail buffer force on the engines up to 800kN. Don't have to touch the freight cars at all. That value gives realistic coupling performance, 0 to 4 couples, 5 to 7 bumps the car without coupling, 8mph+ derails. A little touchier with the front coupler and on curves and grades, DDS for the power problem, but at least the dumb thing don't jump the track at 3-4 mph. I always wondered why the cars were 400kN and the much heavier engines were 200kN, and having a 300,000 lb locomotive bumping into a car at 5 mph and jumping clean off the tracks does not seem realistic to me regardless of which coupler you use. Dec-17-01, 03:49 PM (EST) 4. "RE: Important. Coupling. The lost secret." This is all very confusing. What I have done for a while is running my switchers, diesel that is, front to front. This way I can pull a train from both sides. The problem with that is that the program doesn't seem to know what is what, poor thing, so from one end of the train you go reverse to go forward, from the other end you go the other way. The F9 thing is mixed up too, if you want to uncouple, you seem to have no engines, so u have to uncouple at one end, then u can see the engines and can uncouple them. They seem to be in the middle of the train. Also the switch guide is bachwards, whenever you go the other way. And your forward and back indicagtor is mixed up. But it is workable.
You probably all know that already, just thought I mention it.

Dec-17-01, 04:09 PM (EST) 5. "RE: Important. Coupling. The lost secret." I am with you on that. I have updated every wagon and train I have, and have no probs now. And I haven't overdone it either, so you can still cause or get derailments, but without the stupid settings that existed with the originals.David Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Dec-17-01, 06:26 PM (EST) 6. "RE: Important. Coupling. The lost secret." Thats why I'm fixing it to be realistic without changing all car specs and still going to keep it "realistic". read my new posts about the coupler. this is a very bad bug on KUJU's part but it makes microshaft look bad because it says " as real as it gets" but it aint real if you can't pull a train with the front now is it? Craig Shortino Building a better coupler to make this "as real as it gets". Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

jim,
could kuju of gotten these two values reversed or swapped between the .wag and .eng files, as they have done on a few other things, such as air compressor sounds swapped between gp38 and dash 9, and the others mixups cant think of a the moment...warren Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top
