Jun-07-01, 09:04 AM (EST) "Lock Up Survey" LAST EDITED ON Jun-07-01 AT 09:07 AM (EST)Does MSTS Lock up your PC? post your machine specs here and lets get some attention...Seems like this bug occurs during outside veiwing - especially camera 4. Sometimes it happens when you press "4" key, sometimes it happens when you are in that veiw mode. I have also had it happen in other external views, however. Sometimes it results in a frozen screen with looped sound, sometimes it results in the "send to Microsoft" report, sometimes it just reboots the PC. Seems like alot of people are experiencing this. Post you machine specs here. Lets do some research so that we can present it to MS and hopefully get a fix. I am using a PIII 800
I have 448 Megs of Ram
I have a Voodoo 5500 with 64 megs
I am running MSTS on a Hard drive with 6.5 gigs free. Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-07-01, 03:01 PM (EST) 10. "RE: Lock Up Survey" I've had this happen a couple of times, when pressing "2" view, the machine will freeze up. BUT... this has only happened like three times and they were all after a long session of going into an acitvity, doing it, exiting, going inot another one, derailing, exiting, etc, etc. I had to jump in and out of acitvities like this something like ten times in a 30 minute or an hour period before this will happen, so i really don't consider it an issue - more along the lines of "Program Abuse" (wonder if that's a crime ).Sys Specs:

Jun-08-01, 09:17 AM (EST) 15. "Wow" OK, well it looks like we have a lot of people who never have lock ups and then some that do. The nice thing is that people with very different hardware are all having the same problem. This means that it most likely is a program bug. One user above said that it only happened after an hour or 2. Another said that it happed after a few minutes of play. My experience has been both. Sometimes it happens right away and sometimes it happens after 3 hours of play. One thing that I have noticed, if you keep the frame counter on (shift-Z) and stay in the cab during any frame rates below 18, and then go outside only when they are above 18, you can avoid the problem. In fact I have not had it crash since I started this practice. This is a temporary solution until Microsoft hopefully fixes it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-13-01, 10:22 AM (EST) 28. "RE: Lock Up Survey" Let's face it fellow simmers: MicroShaft has released another hyped-up piece of junk WAY before assuring that it works. Lock ups?? All the time. And where are the vehicles waiting at the crossings? Route Editor is a joke. Options are minimal at best.
Where's the inevitable patch Billy-Boy??? And how much was Mr. James paid to write those rave reviews? What was HE running the game on, a CRAY? Aside from the graphics, this sim is very disappointing. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-08-01, 10:59 AM (EST) 16. "RE: Lock Up Survey" I have mainly experienced lockups when switching from the internal Passenger view on the passenger trains to one of the external views and every time it has locked my computer forcing me to reboot. Fortunately it only happens as an occasional thing, but still annoying. I have also found that the sound seems to cut out along the Northeast Corridor root when you go under certain roadway bridges, especially near Chester south of Philadelphia. I am using a 466 MH Pentium II system with 128 MB of Ram, A Rage Fury Pro video card with 32 MB of memory on the card, A Soundblaster Live 3d sound card, and I have plenty of HD space free though I am not sure the exact amount. I hope this helps, thanks. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-08-01, 04:27 PM (EST) 20. "RE: Lock Up Survey" I've been having the same problem with the program. Typically for me it is switching between the external view and an cab view. I have been having the same problem everyone else is having. Usually resulting in my PC going to direct reboot or locking up with a looping sound. I was starting to think that this was a sound card issue but it may not be. Someone needs to take all these reponses that we are putting together on this form and forward it to MS development team. Jun-08-01, 11:34 PM (EST) 24. "RE: Lock Up Survey" I finally had a lockup after many many hours of running. I have used external views on many occaisions without any probem. This lockup happened whil driving an Acela Express out of Philly at mile 8.0 running 31 mph in a 40 mph zone. I was using External View 1 when the inage just froze and all sound stopped. No inputs of any kind were possible.I am using a Dell PIII at 1 GHz.

Jun-09-01, 08:02 PM (EST) 25. "RE: Lock Up Survey" Well, I bit the bullet and did a reinstall of Win98 after reformatting my drive. I reinstalled MSTS and had only one lockup after 6 hours, a big improvement. The framerate also improved, which was a bonus. It's a bit of an extreme solution, but the lockups were driving me nuts, so I guess it was worth it. Remove | Alert Edit | Reply | Reply With Quote | Top

Jun-09-01, 09:33 PM (EST) 26. "RE: Lock Up Survey" I've had lockups 2 out of 2 times when running Flying Scotsman in Explore route mode. Both times was while using outside views (one was key 2 and the other was maybe 6 (looking straight down on front of train)). The sound was still going after the lockups. Both times required reboot.I've only run the sim for about 1-2 hours so far. No lockups elsewhere yet. I have to run the sim from train.exe instead of launcher.exe -rungame, as launcher takes over all CPU and slows frame rate to 1-4 fps. Also sim will not exit back to Windows. It just goes to a blank screen with Train Sim on title bar. Have to kill the exe from task mgr.400mhz PII 128mb ram
