Guys (and Girls), tommorow I will be getting a laptop (I dont know the specs as of yet), but it should have about 60GB of hard disk space. There is no way I am going to fill that up with "School Work", So Im thinking about installing MSTS with 2 or 3 top quality routes. As I said, no specs...it does have a CD drive! Does anyone have any hints and tips for MSTS onto a laptop? Has anyone done it and have it working fine? Its only a 1 year old computer (getting it 2nd hand). Thanks alot in advance!! >Mike Forster< Perth, Western AustraliaMike.Forster.2005@gmail.com http://www.trainweb.org/aussiepix
It will proabbably have an on-board gfx card so I wouldn't run at max settings
Adam www.trainweb.org/aussiepix/ o, why can't I live a life for me? why should I take the abuse that's served? why can't they see they're just like me i'm not the one that's so absurd Ministry - Everyday is Halloween
Gidday Mike,I have loaded MSTS on a number of laptops for friends. The graphics cards are no problem, I have had most trouble with sound drivers causing BSOD's with XP. I had to disable the sound in one case on an old dell laptop.
Mike,I am running MSTS on a laptop. It is a Pentium 4 with 1.8 GHz and a GeForce Mobile 440. Actually, it runs smoother on the laptop than sometimes on my normal desktop PC. Why, I dunno.Of course the rendering is not too good. What I strongly suggest is to pay even more attention to keeping your HDD defragmented. I noticed that this affects your mobile MSTS installation even more than on a normal hard drive.Furthermore, if you are normally hooked up the grid (not running on batteries), you should consider de-activating the powersaving functions of your GFX card.Hope that helps mate! Cheers!Sebastian
I've been running MSTS on a laptop for almost a year and I must say that I am pleased with its performance. While I have only a 64 MB graphics card, I have a 3 GHz P4 processor w/ HT and 512 megs of RAM. One thing that you need to consider with laptops... Dust, dust, and more dust! Keep those air vents clean! A few months ago, I experienced drastic frame rate drops and pauses while running any game. The problem perplexed me and I even thought about sending my computer in for repair. But I decided to shoot compressed air through the vents as a last-ditch effort and when I started up MSTS after that, it ran perfectly. Other than that, I enjoy the portability of my laptop and you should be able to run MSTS with very few problems. On average, my framerates on MLT's Cascades Crossing route with a 30-car train are between 20 FPS and 30 FPS. Hope this helps.
Hi!I have been running MSTS on my laptop for about 4 months, other than a hardly noticable flicker it runs perfectly. I have a 1.5Ghz Centrino with 512MB RAM and a Geforce FX 5200 graphics card. I also have 16 routes installed, but did find the performance improved dramatically after installing Train Store (no real surprise there!)Mark
I can’t speak for dust, however that makes a lot of sense. But I keep that puppy cool! I can’t stress it enough. Even to the extent of an external fan if need be.My Vaio toasted the internal speaker(s), and later toasted one of the internal fans. Before I caught on to what was happening. As far as Sim performance…, the occasional momentary pause early in the routine, but generally fine after a minute or two of running.Have a sparkling day, Bob
G'day all!! Thank you very much for your responses, much appreciated!! I will post how things go with the installation and running this evening. >Mike Forster< Perth, Western AustraliaMike.Forster.2005@gmail.com http://www.trainweb.org/aussiepix
