I notice a new route in the file library called Clinch Valley District. Part of the description says that this route is not compatible with any version of New Roads. Why is that and is there a work around?Cheers,

3. New Roads mess up the roads in places; yes I'm as upset about this as you may be. The route does not use New Roads, and I suggest you NOT to use add-ons that cause errors such as this. This comment from the readme is telling. Considering almost ALL of the routes use xtracks and either new roads or scaleroads, I do not think there is a problem with this, I think he messed something up. I think I will pass on this as all the other routes I have need scaleroads or newroads.

Then you are loosing out on being able to run an excellent route. I have New Roads loaded and have not found a problem with the roads. However I did find a missing texture: bp.ace I found a replacement in another route and copied it.

No, the route is fully compatible for use with NewRoads and X-Tracks. He just did not use them, neither do I for that matter. It is more of a personal taste, preferring the lack or errors and problems they cause over reliability.Again, the route will work if you have them on your MSTS. And believe me, it is worth the download.

It is my understanding that a version of New Roads altered the default shapes for the default JP road system by lowering the shape height. Therefore, when a route is built that adhered to default Global/Shape standards so it will be compatible in any MSTS installation is installed in an MSTS installation containing New Roads, it will submerge JP roads that were used on the route built with default Global/Shapes. (This likely also bites you when the situation is reversed. i.e. Modified Global/Shape roads into a default Global/Shape install.)Been there, done that. Pulled my hair out trying to find out why my route was being screwed up on other end user's installations.Andre MingPay a visit to V Scale Creations website at: http://www.vscalecreations.comLearn more about VSC and its products at VSC's forum: http://www.3DTrains.com

RE: Clinch Valley District Route and New Roads

I think it was the author's poor choice of words that started this thread on the wrong foot, but he does have a right to his opinions. I installed the route...ran it through Route Riter...created a coal drag...and started the sim and hit Explore Route. Strange, the route didn't generate any terrain buffers...it just started right up. What a route!Bill

RE: Clinch Valley District Route and New Roads

I installed the route, got the high green from Route Riter, placed a few passing points in the paths, created an activity and highballed. No glitches. Nice, nice route.
As fate would have it, I installed the East River District just a few days ago. This "Almost Heaven, West Virginia" NS railroading is distracting me from memorizing lines for an upcoming play. Oh well, that's what rehearsals are for.
By the by, does anyone know how the crew pools work for these two routes? Is Bluefield a crew change point (Tazewell too, for that matter)?Uncle E

failed to load grass-green0,4_B.s over and over and over. I looked in my other routes and couldn't find it. Route Riter kicked it also.

RE: Clinch Valley District Route and New Roads

LAST EDITED ON Mar-06-05 AT 06:47 PM (EST)

I had two crashes when trying to explore the route. I found some unzipped texture folders inside folders 2,3, and an unzipped tiles folder in folder 4, all of which I had extracted to the first folder after installing it into the routes folder. The route loaded and ran perfectly after unzipping those maverick folders, although I did have a crash at Tazell?, crew change point, but I ran through that spot again and no crash. I cannot see any problems with the roads, and I have New Roads and X-tracks installed. Although the route is hard on frame rates with everything at the max, it is one of the best routes I have run so far. Many bridges and crossings, so much that my wife told me where I should stick a train whistle. I see there is a fix that should be installed.

AndreThat is correct, what I did is alter the height of all the default shapes to the same 0.1m. I thought that the gap between the different road sections was annoying, so I fixed it.For those who prefer the little gap there is a zip file with the orignal shapes included in one of the road packages.

RE: Clinch Valley District Route and New Roads

Hi Steven!AH, the joys of MSTS. Many are the times we fix one thing, only to introduce a new foible that causes a bit of consternation in other ways! As a commercial developer, in the past I have shied away from additions/add-ons that tamper with the Global folder in order to keep my product as compatible as possible. So, even though I, too, find the JP height/gap a pain, I had to accept it to remain with default. Seeing as I had zero experience with New Roads, the modification of shapes caught me by surprise. (Thought it was my route for bit!) Fortunately, you had the foresight to include the original shapes, so once we knew what had happened the fix was stone simple.Andre MingPay a visit to V Scale Creations website at: http://www.vscalecreations.comLearn more about VSC and its products at VSC's forum: http://www.3DTrains.com

RE: Clinch Valley District Route and New Roads

Ok, ok, I guess that there is alot of confusion with the new roads statement that I made. Maybe it's just my computer or something, but New Roads mess it up for me, mainly at crossings. The deal there is that the track textures show thrrough the road textures. Thats mainly why I made that statement. Sorry for the confusion. Now with all the errors, the only missing file that I have came across was the bp.ace, and I made a patch and it is up for download. Anything else looks fine to me. I downloaded my own route on here and but it to the test of finding things wrong and I dont no if it's just the route is not agreeing with you all, but it is working fine for me, along with many others. I however have gotten an e-mail about AI trains drifting past signals, can anyone else say they have seen this happen? E-mail me with any responses, I dont visit this part of the fourm much. Lastly, about the crew change points, they are correct according to several Pocahontas Division engineers and conducters. Plus Ive seen them change in these areas as well since I see the line almost every day LOL.Later----DriftonClinch Valley DistrictRails = 100%
