Glamis Jeep VS Train HERE IS THE STORY: I was waiting to meet a buddy at wash 10. and this monster of a jeep goes up the hill and crosses the tracks. A stock jeep follows and almost doesn't make it. THEN everyone can clearly see that a train is coming so the guy in the stock jeep wants to get back on the other side of the tracks before it gets here ..... STUPID. Not to mention that he has his whole family in the jeep with him and his daughter riding on the front bumper seat belted to it. Of course he doesn't make it over and then gets stuck. While the guy is trying to get the jeep unstuck other guys try to get the little girl off the bumper. If you pause the video at the beginning you can see this, if you pause it at the end you can see the little girl still belted to the front bumper http://www.quadscentral.com/videos/trainhitsjeep.WMV

RE: Glamis Jeep VS Train

If this is real, it is really sad. Why would anyone have anyone strapped to their bumper? I hope it was just a giant doll and not a person!Bryce

RE: Glamis Jeep VS Train

Yes, if true, a very sad situation indeed. However, I searched the NTSB site and couldn't find anything related to the incident. Plenty of folks standing about in the video clip, but I see no one attempting to render aid to the "child." I'm somewhat skeptical of the situation as described - especially considering the lack of reports and news items on the subject (2001). Details should be archived somewhere.Train or no train, who straps a kid to the front bumper?...and in an off-road environment?!Cheers!

RE: Glamis Jeep VS Train

So this was all just a sick prank, then? I'm not laughing and the crew of that train probably isn't laughing either.

>har: lol On a other forum they had this story ..This video is REAL. I was not there, but there are some people I know that were there right after it happened. I camp along the washes in Glamis Ca where this video was taken. It runs along side a dirt road on one side, called Wash Road. It parallels the train tracks for miles. The closest available crossing is about 4 miles from there. The tunnel where you see the two riders come out from under the train is too low for the jeeps. If you look at the second rider, he is bent over as he comes out. Depending on the condition, bikes and quads can go under it, and somestimes dune buggies. But no vehicle will make it under. The jeep was pretty banged up, but they had to change the tires before it was able to be driven. The girl in front, is a doll, and no one was injured. Here is a link to another site, where they are talking about the video on Ogrish, and a persons point of view, that was actually there.
http://www.glamisdunes.com/invision...showtopic=39291 (link doesn't seems to work)
I remember this crash, we where there for the aftermath and have some info to add......The jeep had been drive by a 16 year old girl who took dad's jeep with out permission. Her and some other girls wanted to joy ride and did not know how to cross the tracks and got the jeep stuck. If you look you will see in the video all the guys running around in the yellow shirts, they are family members. They where trying to get the jeep running enough to get the jeep back to camp, even had to change the tires before the police showed up. So the girl would not get in trouble.
The "body" you see in the video is actually a blow up doll and like Kevin said the "blood" you see is actually the fluid from the Jeep.
NO ONE WAS HURT in this crash. Well not till the girl got back to camp and had to explain everything to dad.It was not fake or a sick joke. Greetings Roland

RE: Glamis Jeep VS Train

Assuming that this was the truth and there was indeed a "doll" on the front of the jeep and no one was actually killed or injured, what no one has accounted for was the emotional state of the engineer upon impact. I bet my bottom dollar that the engineer didn't discern between a doll and a human once he reached the point of impact. He just saw a "human form". Meanwhile he's blaring the whistle and praying to high-heaven no one gets killed. Bam! He know's he's hit the jeep. He throws it in Emergency and has to wait for the train to stop...probably a mile or so. During this time he's "freakin' out"....until....later, someone tells him that the Jeep is somewhat damaged and it was a doll...not a person that was on the front. Talk about losing a few years on ones' life span after that ordeal. If one were to say there was a victim here it was the engineer. I guess the girl wasn't suppose to be there (not her Jeep), the train was. Personally, I am glad no one was hurt, however, the little girly should be shaved bald and "Dumb-A$$" tattoed on here forehead.Wrong dummy was tied to the front.Kip

RE: Glamis Jeep VS Train

>OK, so why was there a dummy strapped to the front if it was not a prank?Guys I work the area in the video (Yuma Subdivision). I know the exact location. Glamis CA is an extremely popular off roading spot because of the nearby Algodones Dunes which stretch for 40 miles. Every year over the Thanksgiving weekend and the New Years Day holiday there are as many as 100,000 people (no exaggeration) out there camping and off roading! Some of those people do very stupid things with their off road vehicles including driving straight down the middle of the tracks! There have been MANY accidents with our trains and off roaders and pedestrians over the years out there. In a nutshell to answer the above question, people do ridiculously stupid things out there. It seems to be a gathering spot for all of Southern California's people with half a brain coupled with the fact that a lot of the people who go out there get drunk also.PatchCrew
