You might want to try emailing Train Artisan, as they were very much involved with MSTS 2 when it was alive and well. Currently they are building their own train simulator.

Thanks,
Jim

Mike,it refers to further versions of MSTS having been CANCELLED, with no mention of there being any plans to continue with it one way or the other, Sale or Franchise !If there had been, M$ would have said so to keep interest in MSTS alive to make any possible deal with others more attractive and stop disgruntled MSTS simmers from migrating to other Train Sims in the meantime !M$ have been looking for somebody else to carry on with it, but as there were no takers of their terms they ditched it !O t t o

RE: Any Rumors on a New MSTS --MS Just sold Game Group

The rumor I have heard is that Microsoft plans a re-issue disk pressing of the original MSTS. It will be just as originally released and will be sold either through another distributor or through direct mail order. No improvements will be undertaken by Microsoft and no MSTS2 is in the works!Arthur

Hi Arthur !Now that makes sense ! With many still looking to buy MSTS, stocks shrinking, Microsoft can still make some money at little cost by just releasing more retail packs of MSTS-1.2 ! Would help Payware Add-On creators maintain a certain revenue flow.It will be anything up to 2 years before we can expect a suitable replacement for it from another source ! O t t o

RE: Any Rumors on a New MSTS --MS Just sold Game Group

Actually they kept the sale of the Programing groups on there other games pretty quiet. My only question was could they or did they sell
the MS group who produced this sim ?Otto- I understand the past history of MSTS, but things often change when programs or rights to programs are sold.More than likely this was not part of the sale, just posing the question.In the Links 2003 franchise they stopped making the game for PC, but
they sold the group who produces the game and other games. The new buyer may have enthusiasm to get the next program out.........I see MSTS going through the same, if MS were to "toss" it.dg

LAST EDITED ON Jan-04-05 AT 00:29 AM (EST)

Marc/Everyone, I hope you all have had an Excellent Holiday Season & have a Healthy, Happy & Prosperous, New Year! It is already out. Atari is the new distributor. The version is 1.2, which requires that the disk be in the drive. I picked up a copy at CompUsa in the reduced price software section last week, for $9.99.A while back, I was doing a search @ JDR Music World's site & first found it. I posted the link and a question as to whether (anyone may have hearing of)MS selling it to Atari, who might have revived Train Sim2. http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/25471.html (that was my meaning anyway). I now believe TA's new sim may fill that void. Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. Happy Simming!GG1-2332The site wouldn't allow me to include the dash in my screen name.Any Rumors on a New MSTS – MS Just sold Game Group – image 5

FWIW Atari seems to be in the business of buying up a lot of old games for pennies and pressing a few more copies to sell at rock bottom prices. Sounds a bit like the Computer Associates business model: where old (game) software goes to die. Don't expect any code changes of any kind.Dave NelsonWP mainline, Oakland-Stockton: 100% complete;

RE: Any Rumors on a New MSTS --MS Just sold Game Group

A couple of things about the Atari version will be interesting to watch. Firstly, will it use the same install path as the original, thinking here of add-ons that use self installers. Second if the core programme is on sale at rock bottom price (I'm assuming $9.99 in the US will equate to £9.99 in the UK when they release it here) what's that likely to do for the future of payware and commercial add-ons? Not getting into the VFM debate at all here as most of us know the majority of third party content is worth every penny, but average Joe Soap won't necessarily see it that way. However it's going to be kind of hard to justify £24.99 for a route and additional rolling stock when the core programme is less than half of that. Those of us who have had involvement with the commercial side of things know the royalties on a full price product don't exactly pay the mortgage so if prices go down in proportion many developers may lose interest (freeware shouldn't be affected).It would be rather sad if the revitalisation of MSTS as a budget title killed off the commercial add on sector.

The installation I'm using at the moment is from the Atari release, and it appeared to have automatically aimed for the default MSTS directory.
