RE: UK train routes a new one

LAST EDITED ON Dec-04-04 AT 05:12 PM (EST)

Bob,I have really gotten into these English routes. I started with Northwest England2, then got Thames Mersey and Scottish Central. Now have London and Southeast on order. I also just received Brighton Portsmouth, but am very disappointed in it. The others are great routes, well done, good activities with them and more available at UKTrainsim. Lots of AI activity on these busy British routes where passenger traffic is still very important. Four track main lines, many stations and loads of branch lines all add you to exciting simming.

RE: UK train routes a new one

I agree about Brighton to Portsmouth. But the London to Brighton route is much better. London to Brighton has far more scope than the Portsmouth line, because it has many more tracks. The add pack for it also adds a lot more. I suggest you also get the Cannock chase CD from UKtrainsim, which is one of the best UK routes ever made. Scot

RE: UK train routes a new one

Scot,My main beef with Brighton Portsmouth is the total lack of scenery beyond the close areas around the track. As some have commented over at the UK Trainsim forums, as long as you stick to cabview you get a good experience. I like to sightsee as I go so I tend to drive in view '2'. Well those wide open spaces without even a tree get boring. Thats why I really like Thames Mersey and the Scottish Central(even though it is only finished around Edinbraugh).I will admit that the rolling stock with BP is excellent, some of the best sounds I have ever heard.I will check out Cannock Chase the CD.

There is not much scenery in the London Brighton either, but the extra tracks make the AI so more realistic. Cannock Chase has loads of built up areas, and is a really great route, costs far less than Brighton/Portsmouth, and much better. BTW it is all steam unless you get the add on activities. Scot

Scot,I noticed that it was steam when I looked at UKTrainsim. Not very interested in steam.I am looking forward to London and Southeast.

RE: UK train routes a new one

For those who like UK train routes I have an activity pack for the Liverpool - London route almost done. It is a bit tricky but a good route. It will require about 17 downloads but that is something I am forced to do due to lack of default modern stock. Sharon, make sure you get the Swansea route as well. Very nice. It is here on train-sim.com. I have some activities based on the real scheds on that one too. I enjoyed both London Brighton and Brighton Portsmouth. Even though the scenery is a bit sparse the activitivies available and sounds and the Class 421 slam doors all made it worth it to me. Sharon if you enjoy UK train routes you may wish to consider a visit some day. I went there in 2002 and plan to go back.BobFlorida Railfan Page

RE: UK train routes a new one

Bob,With Liverpool - London, I assume you mean the Thames Mersey. Also with the downloads please include the UKTrainsim ID numbers. I sure wish that Trainsim started a similiar system. It makes it so much easier to retreive the files by just entering the ID.I will look at UKTrainsim for the Swansea route. they have better speed in their pipe. I get 210+ kbs there and only 100+ kbs here, though I can get 2 at that speed at the same time.I was in England as a teenager, so many years ago. It was still a steam driven system then. I can remember hours spent at the York station watching all the action. All you had to do was purchase a 10p platform pass and you could stay all day. Also Lincoln and Glasgow Central were places of fond memory. Crossing the Forth by ferry, no auto bridge then, and watching the smoke from the trains crossing over that wonderful bridge. You got me started Bob. I will let memory lane recede for a while.

RE: UK train routes a new one

Hi! The Swansea route is on train-sim.com so U can download it here.Funny thing I get better speeds (still on dial up) on UKTS than I do on TS.com sometimes. Depends on the time of day.WOW on being in the UK during steam days. I think what has got my interest is that it is so different than the US So it is like landing on another planet with so much to learn. I am always learning about railways in the UK. I was there in 2002 spent time at Willsleden Junction (wow that was an incerdible place) and Kensington Olympia. My wife and I want to go back again soon.Anyway check out those routes and look for the Thames Mersey act pack in a few weeksBobFlorida Railfan Page
