Is there any way to determine the location of signals, corssings, etc. for routes that have mile posts? Can you use RE to somehow find why they are located in reference to the mileposts on the route?
Austin there were two questions. The answers should be Yes and Yes.Seriously, Sixman, For the first when in MSTS use the 0 or Zero view to turn on the compas/GPS and read the LAT/Lon. Then enter the Lat/Lon in the Camera dialog when in the RE to "Jump" to the location.

Yeah, but after a long day like today, laziness becomes a factor...To be serious on my part, the easiest way to measure distances in the RE is to use either Jumper, payware avaliable from www.digital-rails.com, or by using the MSTS Poker program avaliable from http://www.simsig.co.uk/msts/mstspoker/mstspoker.html, which appears to either be taken offline now...Austin
Looking at the Jumper program, it appears to use the *.mkr file. Problem is not all routes have a *.mkr file, so this doesn't look like a viable solution.

You'll be surprised what you can do with it.Hint, use the RE Transit Tool to measure distances from a selected object or route editor camera location to a placement position.Austin
AustinI downloaded the trial version. According to the manual, the program gets points out of the *.mkr file. Several of the routes I wanted to try this on do not have a *.mkr file, so it won't run. Do you need to create the *.mkr file first? I think I remember a utility in the Train-Sim library that creates *.mkr files. I will have to look for it.

If I am reading your question correctly, my sugggestions would be to run an activity with passenger station stops required....then use the F10 ("Next Station" box, which shows mileage, and that will show the mileage to the next station. You could sit and make note of all the signal and station locations.mileages that way, without having to have any add-on programming to learn. The drawback is that you would have to also write down mileposts that ARE indicated on the route when you pass them, and then do a little arithmetic from the "Distance to Next Station".
