...wide, wide world of sports is going on here?Foolishly, I decided to update my drivers for my video card - GeForce4 MX420. I installed everything, things are seeming to work OK, but when I jump into the game, I get displaced smoke:

RE: What in the...

Odd - which driver set did you download and install - and were they WHQL drivers from the nVidia site or from a 3rd-party group (ie: guru3d.com)? Also, did you remember to uninstall the previous drivers first?Cheers!

Marc:You know how you hate to hear the doctor or dentist say "Gee, I've never seen that before" when you're getting a checkup? That's sort of how I felt when you said "Odd" in response to the pictures - not a warm and fuzzy feeling Anyway, here's the data on the drivers:
Driver Name: nv4_disp.dll
Driver Version: 6.14.0010.6693 (English)
DDI Version: 9 (or higher)
Driver Attributes: Final Retail
Driver Date/Size: 10/29/2004 16:50:00, 3736704 bytes
WHQL Logo'd: Yes
WHQL Date Stamp: n/a(Edit) I downloaded the installer from the NVidia site. The ray of hope is that, no, I neglected to uninstall the previous set. I'll give that a try and see if it helps.Waldo - thanks, but I did that several times, with the same result each time. Isn't that one definition of insanity - continuing to repeat the same action with the hope that the outcome will change? I think one of the others is thinking MSTS will work!I do have a question about that, though. When I run the Change Video Driver, I only get a single choice in the pull-down menu: "Direct3D Primary Hardware". Should I have a choice here or not?Andy

RE: What in the...

Be carefull uninstalling the old drivers. There's be occasion when I've done that and rebooted into a black screen. Things seem to go fine just installing over the older drivers. However if you just gotta try it and happen to get the black screen, restart in safe mode and make things right BK

RE: What in the...

Happy times are back - I did the uninstall/reinstall trick, and things are again working as they should. Thanks for the pointers!BTW, I did learn something new, which is probably old hat to anybody who really knows MSTS. But it's new to me so I'll pass it along for others who are like me. The file dxdiag.txt in my Train Simulator folder has pretty much all the info I need to communicate with the experts about the current configuration of my computer - CPU type and speed, OS version, video and audio card info, etc. A nice little summary of what my system is.Andy
