Today I got curious about progress in train sims. I re-installed Auran's Train Simulator 2004 and downloaded and installed their new Service Pack #4. Everything seems to work okay, but when I went to check out routes to download, almost all of them were based in Europe or Australia. Not exactly enthused about driving those routes. Sooooo...I uninstalled it and re-installed MSTS. Talk about a night and day difference!!! Even as old as it is, MSTS still looks great and has some fantastic routes and add-ons. One thing I still don't see and which I miss a LOT is the overhead scrolling map that TRS2004 has. I know a lot of the experts scoff at this , but it's essential if you are using a complex route and can't figure out where the heck you are. It's about as close as you can get to a GPS, which is standard equipment on REAL locos nowadays. Of all the addons that have been created for MSTS, this one item would give amazing longevity and playability to MSTS. I just wish someone had the ability to make it and I guarantee it would sell like hotcakes. Anyway, it's good to see a lot of old friends on here and I hope everyone is healthy and happy. Dep
I have been saying this for over a year now, that a superimposed zoomable Moving Map window showing me where I am in the route would be what I would like most in MSTS, apart from being able to drive another loco or change driver cabs in an activity !I get round it by having the route open in the AE on one machine and running it on the other. Displaying the 0 (Zero) key Compass Co-ordinates tells me where I am, I can then check in the AE. Perhaps TMTS will provide one ? O t t o
