Where can I get the new .exe-file for Route-Riter that was supposedly made available on November 28th, if it really exists? The download link on the Route-Riter website just gives a 404.
Otherwise, can someone please point me to a place that has the latest .exe-file that DOES exist?

If you had 1) bothered to actually READ my post and 2) bothered to actually try to click on the "Latest EXE file only"-link, you'd have seen that this results in a "404"

RE: Newest Route-Riter .exe

If you had bothered to actually read your own post "The download link on the Route-Riter website just gives a 404." You'll find that statement is untrue, however, given that I gave you an alternate site which you were apparently at and not at the Route-Riter website. Regards,Eric

Eric,I hate to tell you this, but he's right. You gave him Yuri's link, but when you go there and actually try to do what he wants, you DO get a 404 error. I just tried it and I got the same thing he didWe have to be careful not to assume too much when answering questions. Sometimes it can come back and bite us in the butt!Take care -Larry Steiner

At least that one WORKS I find it amazing that people who get a program for nothing can still complain about functions not working.Mike does have a life and he has fixed many bugs that I have emailed him about.Rather than complaining, would you either post the error message or send an email to Mike with the error information and he will be only too happy to work on the problem.

It is the same problem as before - it never finishes the compacting process.. It processes shapes, world files etc as it is supposed to, but never actually starts the compacting itself. This was apparently cured with the previous update, but this had another bad fault - it removed station platforms etc, even though these were needed in the route. Seems like the fix for this have crippled the compacting function again...Maybe it'd be an idea to make the v5.X version available again, as the 6.X version is obviously still a beta?

RE: Newest Route-Riter .exe

Mike is usually around here and making some post. I sent him email to check the link and ensure the file is in place. If there is a hurry take the slightly larger update file. BK

RE: Newest Route-Riter .exe

Looks like there was a bad link on Yuri's site, certainly the link on my own site is working fine and v6.1.57exe there downloads OK. I have emailed Yuri advising him of the broken link, however this site has nothing to do with me, I can not upload directly to the site. Yuri has an important job and can not be expected to just sit at home awaiting reports of broken links In any case, the startup screen and about screens on Route-Riter do give you the link to my own site for latest updates. As for there being a problem with compacting routes, some users mentioned this some time ago, but never gave details of the routes they could not compact apart from the MBTA.I have used RR to compact all the routes I have (something like 30 and this includes the MBTA), so if someone can tell me of a route which it does not compact I would be pleased to work with them to find out where the problem lies?On top of this, there are very few routes which do need compacting unless you are building your own route. VIrtually all routes which have been uploaded have already been compacted with RR by the author so why would you want to do this again?Mike

RE: Newest Route-Riter .exe

When I try to run 6.X I get a runtime error that directX (or was it ActiveX) couldn't create something so I just went back to version 5. But something is very strange with the MBTA route and Route Riter. Every time I try to check out the route it says there is no ..\routes\mbta\mtba.rdb, .tbd, rit etc. That is correct, there isn't any "MTBA" files, they are all "MBTA" files and I can't figure out where the "MTBA" is coming from.I think part, probably a large part, of the problem with the MBTA route is the ref file which, at 8MB is at least 10 times larger than any other ref file on any other route I have. Refclean has been running on that file for over 18 hours and has 30K plus objects. I sincerely doubt there are over 30K discrete objects on the route. A cursory review of the world files doesn't even indicate 1K different objects.Richard

RE: Newest Route-Riter .exe

Hi Richard,I posted a message somewhere here on how I managed to compact the MBTA route, however the first thing it involved was renaming the .ref file so that when you ran RR it built a new one. As you have found, any program that attempts to parse the 8 meg version will take forever. You will also need to delete lots of folders which should not be there and rename the Terrtex\Snow(2) file to SnowI got the route down to around 60 megs and sent it to Sniper, I think he was going to try to get permission to post it in that fashion, but I have heard nothing since.Mike
