Have been away from MSTS for 1 1/2 years, but glad to be returning. A question for anyone who can help me re Windows XP.I lost my Win98 system, have MSTS Version 1.00 CD - If I buy a new Dell notebook under XP with a 64mb video card --- can I reinstall and run MSTS generally ok. I use to be knowledgeable sorta and have earlier downloaded several new routes, cars, etc. My guest is a high level "can I" use WIN XP to run Version 1.00?Thanks very much for the help. 88man

RE: Returning MSTS Version 1.00
Yeah its no problem what so ever, however some people are complaining about the Service Pack 2, but I don't know if this has somthing to do with msts or not (haven't been keeping track of those posts) -Dave

I'll have to differ. Since changing over to XP, I've had nothing but problems running MSTS. Most recently, I left MSTS on while doing other tasks. When I came back to resume running, the MSTS box had disappeared from the bottom of the screen and any restart crashed after viewing the loading screen. This usually happens about every 4 to 6 weeks and results in a complete removal and reload of MSTS.
I was a very satisfied W98SE user resisting change to XP as long as I could. With W98, I only blue-screened or locked it up once or twice a week, had pretty much everything all figured out. Recently bought a new computer with .. you guessed it, XP Pro.To make a long story short, it runs MSTS (and most everything else) so much better, although it does take a bit more in the setup and tweaking area - at least in my experience. I've had only one blue-screen - the very first time I started it up, but have attributed that to having a different monitor than factory specs. No lock-ups, no major problems (not of my own doing anyway) and have no question about recommending it. Only other problem I've had was installing Net Framework for Route-Riter and found out that was a faulty file setup on my system, to which I can credit no blame for XP - just one of those things.Above all, have fun with it .. that's what we're here for.RobertR .. I can confirm what Bob said.I too was reluctant to change from WIN-98SE to WIN-XP Home but have not regretted doing so ever since, Frame Rates almost doubling and Graphics displays generally improved.A lot depends on the Graphics Card and it's driver. A Laptop / Notebook can not compete with Desktops where choice of Graphics Cards is concerned, many Laptops / Notebooks having it built into the Motherboard. A powerful Graphics Card needs a lot of cooling, a Laptop / Notebook can not provide for space reasons. Smaller screens on Laptops / Notebooks are another disadvantage and so is their price compared with Desktops / Monitors !O t t o
I recently set up a complete new system with XP Home SP2 installed, and have had no problems. In fact it appears to run better than my old Win98SE system. But be sure to download & install the MSTS v1.1 update.
