Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac

After lots of problems, a daring route rescue, and lots of computer trouble too, all the track is in place (with the database successfully rebuilt) and scenery is pretty much complete on 51 of the 54 miles between Fredericksburg and Washington. I hope to have the route finished, beta tested, and uploaded this winter.

I have a route I am very slowly working on..ATSF Chillicothie Sub between Cowirth Yard and Fort Madison,IA. I have about 33 miles of track laid but as I stated I am very lazy when it comes to working on it. I might not even be released since I don't spend that much time in the RE.

Working on a route which is actually an industrial park once owned by FMC. The route is based in 1968, and will also included what the park looks like under its current owner in this century on another tile. A great route for those who like switching activities.

Rio Grande Narrow Gauge - Chama to Durango

I'm plugging away at linking Chama, NM with Durango, CO - SubDivision 12 on the Denver & Rio Grande Western. It's all 3 ft narrow gauge, all steam, nearly all single-track, and set in the 40s-early 60s before the realignment of the track in southern Colorado because of the then new Navajo Reservoir.Mainline track is completed, Chama and Durango are in place and fully scenicked (taken from the Cumbres Pass and Silverton Branch routes, respectively). Most bridges and berms are in, and work is progressing slowly to install rivers and forests - next up are the intervening towns and stations.Andy

Stinky Creek & Cheesman Pacific Lines

Hi Bob,
my fictional Freeware route with a 1880's Wild-West theme "Stinky Creek & Cheesman Pacific", should come on line at Train-Sim before Christmas. The Route for all practicallity, is finished, but I'm still working on Documentations. 15 Acts are finished, except for small timing problems, which keep me going in circles.
It's ridiculous how much time is spent to correct such miner things. Rolling stock is repainted and needs to be packaged, etc..
We all go through "adding new and neat stuff". In fact I could go on forever, changing, upgrading, etc.. At some point one has to say, finished, I'll do no more!Regards,

Cincinnati Terminal Route

I am working on the Cincinnati Ohio Terminal Area. This covers roughly 25 miles in each direction of downtown Cincinnati. I have completed just over 600 miles of track with a couple more hundred to go and some scenery objects have been added as I go along.Time setting is 1997ish (I wanted to include Conrail). The route features:Erlander Hill (CNO&TP) - 20 miles
Queensgate Yard - CSX
AK Steel facility in Middletown Ohio
Shortline action with the Great Miami & Western in Hamilton
Regional Carrier with the I&O Railroad
Lots of Switching in Ivorydale and plenty of Industries along the wayI am still at least 6 months to year before anything will show up in the file library here. I will post pictures eventually on my progress.

CSX Tallahassee Sub. . .

. . . from River Jct. to Madison FL (where I ran into a north-south GWV line and decided to stop with about 75 miles of Tallahassee Sub track left east to Baldwin, which might get done some day). The closest thing to "mountain" railroading in Florida. Single track DTC and CTC, with grades of almost 2% climbing out of the Apalachicola River valley, then ridge running with more heavy grades to Tallahassee, then east through swamps and rolling hills. Track 98%, scenery 25%. Estimated conmpletion Spring 2005.I have been having fun with Demex and may have something else to contribute later next year. And since Bob started this topic, it's time to ask again, "Whatever happened to the FEC?"

Atlantic &Pacific's Brite's Pass/Bear Valley Line

Atlantic & Pacific History I’m working on simi-fictious alternate route over Tehachapi Pass that was surveyed by the Santa Fe in the 1920s. Planned as an alternate for using the SP's rails over Tehachapi Pass. The SP's crews built the Atlantic & Pacific from Mojave to the Colorado River. The SP then horse-traded the ATSF for a line in Mexico that became the SP de Mexico. Trains running over the line are a mix of AP and ATSF (trackage-rights) trains.
Era is set about 1950-1955 but I have history from 1900 into the early 1970s. My slightly rewritten version of history is that the SP build the A&P and traded it to the ATSF which then sold it to the "subsidiary", the Atlantic & Pacific. The AP then built the competing line over the SP at Mojave. Origially at grade with interlocking. However WWII traffic levels demanded a solution to the long delays and a fly-over was constructed by the AP. The AP then worked its way up Oak Creek, past the cement plant at Creal and through several tunnels to the head of Cameron Creek. The line reached the summit and drifted high along the south side of Tehachapi Valley to Brite's Pass and into Brite's Valley. After navigating down a 2.2% grade and 10deg curves at the west end of of Brite's Valley the railroad races accross the open flatlands of Bear Valley before dropping down a 2000 vertical foot grade on a serpentine route with 10 degree standard curves to Tejon and Chanac Creeks. Finally after decending through the Tejon Gorge the line runs out accross the south San Joaquin Valley past the potato fields of Arvin towards the yard near Weedpatch that was setup to change power to heavy engines to attack the north grade to Cameron Summit and east.
The line was expensive to build with multiple 150-200ft high bridges and several double track viaducts over washes along the foothills near Tehachapi. This line like the SP's Tehachapi line suffered several washouts in the 1930's and earthquake damage in 1952 from the nearby White Wolf Fault's 7.5 quake. After some quick track realignments the route was back open. Thankfully, non of the tunnels collapsed, several that may have, had been removed in 1940 before the war. In the following years the AP made several very interesting and nearly devestating business decisions causing reflections and trouble for the railroad's managment until the mid-1980's.The Atlantic Pacific Garrett

ATSF SELIGMAN SUB

I am building the ATSF Seligman Sub. It has over 300 miles of double track. It runs from Needles CA over the Arizona Divide to Winslow AZ.
It features Canyon Diablo (Bridge by Ron Picardi), branch up to the Darling Cinder Pit (extinct volcano where ballast in mined), both the old and new routes between Williams Jct and Crookton AZ. Old line has left hand running and was built using 1951 track charts, Crozier Canyon. Lots of high desert fast running and lots of mountian railroading. The double track separates in numerious places with uphill grades of 1.42% and down grades of 1.80%. This line handles 100 trains a day.
Terrain by DEMEX with distant mountains.
Rail layed 100%
Highways 10% Old US 66 (the mother road) follows the RR.
Scenery 35%
Interactive objects
and terrain textures 0%
Release Spring 2005 I am also working on the Grand Canyon route which interchanges with the Seligman Sub at Williams AZ. It has 64 miles of single track.
It uses DEMEX with distant mountains and includes about 15 miles of the canyon at end of track (Grand Canyon Village). In order to see the canyon in MSTS, I had to build a fictional line that runs along the rim of the canyon.
Track layed 100 %
Everything Else 0%

Well it self destructed and was not recoverable when I switched computers.I then observed with all the great talent out there in route building I decided to foucs on activities. That is my specialty. So ended the FEC.In hindsight it would have been a victim of GWV and coupler breaks based on what I know now.If anyone wants to take on the FEC I have track maps etcBobFlorida Railfan Page

RE: WDE, Michigan's Main Line

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-04 AT 08:17 PM (EST)

I have started to make the WDE system, which is my proto-freelance model railroad. The WDE System streaches from Detroit to South Grand Raipds and East Chicago via trackage rights. WDE is affiliated with 2 other railroads, Detroit Intermodel and the Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois railroad. WDE is made up of 3 parts. Woodland Connection, Sunfield Southern, and Bi Lakes Railnet (BLR is commuter service into Detroit and GR.) Detroit Intermodel is a Detroit to Chicago Intermodel service using SD70Ms, Dash-9s, and GP60M and B units (My wild imagination, GP60Ms flying across the Michigan Prarie!). DETI is kinda like a fast freight deal. Dont be suprised if some GTW units appear on this line every now and then.

Tehachapi Division 1950s

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-04 AT 10:48 PM (EST)

Ah yes, the other rout I'm working on, going on three years now, is Tehachapi Pass 1953 plus several other streachs of ajoining railroad. All in all about 250 miles of track. No GWV problems yet. Several TDB problems with dynamic track DBL going "chord" on me but have fought through every one of the problems so far.
I'm debating going to ScaleRail and rebuilding the whole thing. But that is a lot of work. Poll question; One, who wants a route this size? Two, of those that do, who wants ScaleRail vs. MSTS? Three, would you be willing to wait two or three years more to get on with ScaleRails or do you all want me to try to get it done the way it is? Please respond with Train-sim Private Message System or emailing not posting, thanks.BTW, The SP Mt4 and San Joaquin Daylight models are nearing completion!The AtlanicPacificGarrettScreenshot; two 4300 class 4-8-2s cresting Sandcut and dropping into Bena at 50mph. See other screenshots of models in the works at;

RE: Northland Railway Division by Division

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-04 AT 11:49 PM (EST)

I am presently researching route building and taking advice from posts from calr and others....to try and start small and get the "book"......the route i am trying to build is my actual Nscale fictional railroad....the "Northland Railway". Its set in the early to mid 1970`s. The target area is the Duluth Superior region......leaning heavily on the BN. But SOO, C&NW and LST&T, DWP and MILW would not be out of place on it. As soon as my new PC is ordered.....I will get rolling on it....I`m almost out of memory now....I have been rearraning other routes and making small ones for practice and experiments......hopefully sometime next year. The first Route the "Blackhawk" Division will feature Branchline switching, Grain Elevators and yard work.CG

>ScaleRail vs. MSTS?If your route uses dynamic track, then you'll have a problem going ScaleRail. Not impossible, but tedious at best.If your route, however, uses default pieces (non-dynamic) then the conversion should take about 15 to 30 minutes. Either way, it adds little to the download (just textures), as I ask that folks download the latest ScaleRail files from 3DTrains and not include SR with their routes.Cheers!

Detroit Toledo & Ironton Southern Division

In addition to my Cincinnati Terminal Project I started a DT&I route that features running from Springfield to Ironton, OH. Set around 1960, trackwork is complete from Waverly to Jackson to Bloom Junction.Right now work is slow going as I alternate between working on routes. I am hoping to preserve a little piece of history with this route. There are many unique features of the railroad that I plan to eventually include. Alot more work is needed.
