How many of you have the PRR Middle Division? It was available for some time back in 2002-2003 on www.avsim.com. I was just wandering if it would be worth my time to create and post an activity with a CONRAIL theme.SPEAK UP!!!!

RE: PRR Middle Division

It was posted for a while and then it was withdrawn.
I think the creators were upset at some of the criticisms that were levelled at them. The grades on Horsheshoe Curve were unprototypical and I think a lot of people were disappointed that the mainline was 3 and not 4 tracks. I think a few of us still have a copy of it kicking around somewhere though. Personally, what I think the authors might have done with it was stick with it and over time add improvements to it as the entire sim matured. Now that we have newer versions of Xtracks and such things, a lot of the rougher edges of some of the earlier routes could be smoothed off. I'd still like to see a (4 track mind you) Horseshoe Curve route.

Hasn't it been three tracks since the early 80s?

Leiv Eiriksson was first - Christoffer Columbus used a Viking map!

>Hasn't it been three tracks since the early 80s? Conrail ripped up the third track in the early 80's. They ripped up one of the middle tracks, not on the outside. For true modern Conrail, you'll want to redo the Gallitzin tunnels. The Gallitzin Tunnel has been stripped of it's tracks, the Allegheny Tunnel is also now double track and is high to meet double stack clearances. As for another Horseshoe Curve route, we can only hope that Andy Hockin is reading this thread.

RE: PRR Middle Division

A subject dear to my heart...Like Jim said, it's still available at BLLW.Thanks for reminding me to mouth off about this...I've had some time recently to revisit my copy of this route and I personally believe that it should have been given more credit than it recieved. Yes it needed work, but instead of griping, the critics should have taken a shot at a revised version. But, no, it was easier to type scathing critiques. This is especially true once you consider there have been so many recreations of the MSTS default routes which have the same issues with unprotypical grades, etc...I like the route, despite it's faults. It was an honest attempt at a huge subject, much more than it's critics ever attempted (or proabaly contributed). It's really not any worse than many other routes I've downloaded. The creator got a lot further on his section of the Philly to Pittsburgh main than any other attempt including the alledged Philadelphia Division and my own ill fated Allegheny Eastern (Pittsburgh Division).Route building is the hardest part of MSTS, any route that makes it to the library is a success in my book.Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

Frank said it all....even though I found the small quirks in the trackwork as well, this route was a huge undertaking....it is well sceniced, was relatively easy on framerates, and offered a spectacular view of one's own train around Horseshoe curve...It remains one of my favorite routes today, especially with Frank's Baldwins and those great Sharks from NALW. I always have it installed...I have been learning the activity editor lately and hopefully will come up with some activities for it soon...Frank

Same here. I have it installed and plan to keep it. It would be good however, if the creator did tackle the grade issue, much like others have done with the default routes. However, I like what I've got. I like running it!

RE: PRR Middle Division

Gentlemen,Mr. Musick is indeed correct. The route is available through BLLW, but by inquiry or through our forums for privacy reasons. To post a request for the route, please drop an email at either BLLW@aemail4u.com, or the forums at BLLW@100freemb.com, and I will gladly get to you. Please also remeber I am working during the weekdays, but will be able to post replys within a period 1 to 2 days. I will make a few comments about the route.Recently we have almost finished an update from CD version 1.1 to version 1.2. In tradition with keeping quality control at its peak levels, version 1.2 replaces all the zip files with accurate installers that simplify the installation process. In earlier versions, there were CRC errors with the CD. This has also been corrected by splitting the routes installer from just one large installer, into three different parts. The Default MSTS Equipment used in certain activities has been replaced with more 1950's era equipment, while the equipment packs have also been weeded through and equipment failing to meet the marks have been pulled from them and replaced.Version 1.3 (To be issued sometime in 2005) will finally place K4 #1361 on the curve, while also adding a new package onto the equipment CD: A K4 Megapack, and also a PRR Passenger Equipment Package that will include A B60b Baggage Car, R50b Express Reefer, PB70 Combine, 5 P70 Class Coaches, A D70 Diner, and observation #130, all modeled with extreme care and as much detail as could be placed. Look for December and all next year to be extremely good for fans of the "Standard Railroad of the World."Thomas Pearce,

I've talked with Thomas on the phone numerous times in the past and I easily say he's the decent sort. There's no need to go on a fishing expedition. It's his perogative to setup whatever kind of system suits him best. You got his attention now, send the email and surely you'll get an answer this time.Rich G
