Well, here this the first MSTS "Pick"......the first of what I hope to be many looks at various items found right here in the library.
....As some of you might know, I'm a sucker for EMD SD40-2s. When TA did the SD40-2 update for train-sim, I jumped for joy! This is truely a timeless model,........at the same time, I'm also a bit of a CSX guy, although I much prefer it's predessors, the Seaboard System, and Chessie System.A fella by the name of Adam Brooks did a reskin of a "undecorated" SD40-2 also in the library by Scott Miller...........this repaint surely is something else. The engine would be CSX #8200, in the "CSX-B" scheme, according to Dean Heacock's CSX paint scheme schedual.
I downloaded it when it was first released over a year ago, the reskin is excellent, ..very realistic, even down to the subtle front left hand side truck weathering.
The real 8200 was built L&N 3572 in 1974 by EMD in LaGrange Iillinois....8200 was one of an order of 30 SD40-2s, EMD order #74644.8200's serial number is 74644-19, engine 19 of 30.The L&N 3572 was renumbered 8200 after the formation of the Seaboard System, and continues to wear CSX #8200 in "CSX-BC" paint to this day...on the train-sim model, I kept the cabview included, but I changed the horn from the included K5LA to the prototype's Leslie RS5T...using the RS5T from the NALW GE Mega Pack.I really enjoy running 8200 any chance I get, ...I love those early CSX paint schemes, and Mr Brooks has done a handfull....eventually, I will review more in time.I like how the headlights really become bright on the bright setting, I know that some models lack in truley bright headlights. This thing looks really good,......I'm sorry to say I do not have paint dates for this unit, but I'd say this unit (in this paint scheme) is good from mid 1988 to about 1992 or 1993.
If you own MLT's Sandpatch route, I highly suggest this unit, ..it looks sweet running in the Autum season,.......and even if you don't, there are many excellent routes for this excellent engine to call home..Cons???Well,...for one, the lettering on the hood sides appears alittle off, maybe smaller, or not the perfect font...now, I could be wrong, but that's how it looks to me. Also, the real 8200 had some special lettering underneath the conductor's side window, but I could never figure out what it said....and in MSTS, it was easier to leave out then to fake,...so I'll slack up on that one.
Well done, this unit is a winner.
