RE: Kosmos plane

I'm sure Jeff Bush has a better answer, but I re-painted the .ace file named Aplane.ace, removing the plane, and covering up the alpha. It was kind of annoying to see a jet flying overhead in my 1920's era trolley route. I've attached the modified file to this message. Just drop it into the route's ENVFILES/Textures folder, overwriting the Aplane.ace that is already there.

RE: Kosmos plane

Your's is the best solution, Chuck !That way you can stop it appearing in all Clear environments of one route and not in other routes.Otherwise editing all of a route's individual Clear .env files would be required to take it's animation out.O t t o

RE: Kosmos plane

I agree. That's really the simplest way to get rid of the plane, on a route by route basis.The plane is actually from one of Michael Vone's Albula Line 2.1 environments. Michael developed some incredibly innovative techniques for environment features which were miles ahead of the MSTS default environments. These include not only the plane flying overhead, but also raindrops in the water, lightning flashes in the sky, and snowdrifts drifting across frozen water. Many of the features we take for granted in MSTS environments come from Michael's developments.I was honored when Michael agreed to have the Albula 2.1 environments included with Kosmos. (He was also really helpful in the development of the whole utility). (Special note: I think if you're lucky you'll also spot an occasional flying saucer sweeping overhead in one of his environments). Needless to say, there might be many features in Michael's and my environments you'd like to alter. Let me very enthusiastically encourage folks to do those alterations; check the Kosmos help files for assistance with that. Or even better, Michael's book, Guide to Route Building. (It has lots of environment info.)Jeff

RE: Kosmos plane

Hi,Is there a way to get the lightning to be not so "frantic"? It seems to be flashing almost constantly. I really like the effect, but there needs to be more time between strikes.Thanks.Bryce

RE: Kosmos plane

Once again, I would defer to Jeff Bush for the correct answer. A while back, I fooled around a bit in the Albula21springrain.env file to see what I could do about it. Scroll down to the section that deals with the lightning ( or go to Edit/Find… and type in alightningsingle.ace). Here is what the default looks like:

world_anim_shader
(
world_anim_shader_frames ( 1
world_anim_shader_frame
(
world_anim_shader_frame_uvscroll ( 13 2.8 )
world_anim_shader_frame_uvtiles ( 1 1 )
)
)
world_shader ( BlendATexDiff
terrain_texslots ( 1
terrain_texslot ( Alightningsingle.ace 2 0 )
)
terrain_uvcalcs ( 1
terrain_uvcalc ( 1 0 0 0 )
)
)
)
)
I made a backup of the .env file in case I screwed up. Then I messed with the numbers until I got something that was semi-satisfactory. It looks like this:

world_anim_shader
(
world_anim_shader_frames ( 1
world_anim_shader_frame
(
world_anim_shader_frame_uvscroll ( 100 100 )
world_anim_shader_frame_uvtiles ( 50 1 )
)
)
world_shader ( BlendATexDiff
terrain_texslots ( 1
terrain_texslot ( Alightningsingle.ace 2 0 )
)
terrain_uvcalcs ( 1
terrain_uvcalc ( 1 0 0 0 )
)
)
)
)
The only two lines that I ended up editing are the ones in red. It’s not perfect, but it’s an improvement.And, if anyone else got tired of the flying saucer (file name – aflyingsaucer.ace), attached to this message is a blanked out UFO. Use the same instructions as the aplane.ace replacement.
