The November 04 issue of CTC Board has some extensive coverage of the Burlington Northern Railroad. On page 41 there is a picture of an SD40-2 # 7890, lashed up to a tank car with a refrigerator unit attached. After looking thru the archives at both Fallen Flags and Railpictures.net, I am unable to find any othe photos of this combination. Would anyone here, have either photos, or information on where to find yet more info on these? I've already started a repaint of the MSTSv1.2 SD40-2 into the paint scheme as illustrated. The the logos, and tanker itself, will require more work and research.Thanking those in advance for any assistancePW

oh, there is one big problem that won't be solved short of making a new model. The LNG conversion units need more cooling capacity, and they got flared radiators from retired SD45's. Not the flared radiator on the rear of the units.Ted Curphey

ONe of those LNG units is a leaser unit now, HLCX. I saw it a few months back. I dont know if it kept the same number or not.

Understand that I really didn't wan't to discourage you from doing that paint job, I just wanted to point it out beforehand so you would know. I think it will look fine on a regular SD40-2.Ted Curphey

Actually Ted, if you look at the flares, they are NOT from SD45's.Both units have notches at the rear-end of the flares, something that SD45's did not. As well, 7890 still maintains the corrigated screens it was delivered with, just mounted at an angle.Whatever, keep up the good work Paul.DanEveryone is entitled to their opinion no matter how wrong it is.

Thank you gentlemen. 3D modelling now on my "to learn" list! I wonder tho' if the sd45 might be a better starting point, if only because of the flares.

Naw, it looks much better on the SD40-2. Would you have noticed the flared radiators if I and everyone else not pointed them out? The scheme would be totally out of place on a SD45. I was thinking the unit was looking great as-is, so please continue.Ted Curphey

The topic of discussion. Used SFM set for high noon ( unlike the first set to 1630 hrs to show off the nose detail.) I might have noticed the flares, bit it would have been way too late, sort of like yesterday, lol!

Guys, I'm really liking this, nearly 20 posts....and no flames!!. Now we only have to hear from the tanker people!.Personal observation, for those of you too new to remember the first days of this forum. This a lot like what it was ,with all kinds of people throwing in good constuctive critisizm, with the end result being greater than it could have been on its own. Maybe there's hope after all. Thank you all. Looking forward to more of the same.

As you can see in this photo, the tender is unlike anything out there. But repainting one of the 33,000 LPG tankcars would be closest.BN refrigerated liquid methane unit #7890 – image 25A couple other things, the white strip should pass under the radiator grills, and not over the top of them. Thanks Ted, for all the additional info. I am however somewhat loathe to move the thin white line below the radiators. The original msts v1.2 seems to have a problem with bitmapping, causing no end of trouble, trying to line up the lines from side to side around the back. But I will give it a shot, and get back with the results, in a couple of days.

Did you notice the two small RLM logos on each side of the nose of the locomotive? The BN "wrench" logo on the side needs to be replaced with something better. Your version features blunt ends when they should really have a taper. Carefully compare the oversided logo on this unit to your own, and you should see what I mean.BN refrigerated liquid methane unit #7890 – image 44Ted Curphey

You may want to consider getting rid of those marker lights. The BN got rid of their marker lights before those two units were painted in that special scheme. Andrew

Lookin' Good! A few suggestions. Get rid of the red class lights on the front and rear. Also darken the front and rear pilot plates so they are black (they look grey right now), other than that, it looks great!Ted Curphey
