Well the first leg of the Frisco's Kansas Division route is about to be released here in mid-December or early January. The first section will cover Ellsworth to Wichita's 29th St. Yard. Heres a couple of screen shots.

RE: Frisco KD Route

Why are you using British Semaphores when we have the wonderful upper and lower quadrants by our dear friend Signalmaster? They are openly available in the file library....Should be an interesting route to examine when it's released, though...Something out of the ordinary....JBD

RE: Frisco KD Route

Hey Cody,
I actually live along the Burrton Sub, at Valley Center, where there is a short segment of the old Frisco still in use to reach some local industries. The Valley Center Frisco Depot still exists, although moved off-site. I look forward to the release of this one.

I will be including the Barton Solvents along the line. I know that the VC depot is south of Hilsboro I think. Havent got around to taking the pictures...the inlaws live around there.

RE: Frisco KD Route

Hey Cody.
Good choice on including Barton Solvents, since they still get tank cars of solvents several times a week; Usually delivered by the BNSF Wichita switch engine 'slug set'. There is also another active industry on the same spur; 'Central Kansas Truss' receives centerbeam lumber cars, also several cars per week.
The Valley Center Frisco Depot was indeed moved about 8 miles south of Hillsboro on the east side of the county highway, and is now a private residence. You might find it hard to get recent photos, since the trees have grown up around it. I do have some photos from 15 years ago, and can see a bit more of the building then.
Did you include the unusual bridge the Frisco operated over the Little Arkansas river a mile west of Valley Center? The center span was a 65-foot former turntable bridge.
Again, looking forward to this one.

RE: Frisco KD Route

Im actually working on the bridges right now. I am using pictures of ES&A's turntable to build the bridge. At this point, I need to build the towns of Lyons, Medora, Bentley, Valley Center, and Wichita Heights, along with the Coleman Plant. You might pass those pictures along to me, I could always use them on the website.

RE: Frisco KD Route

All stock, and then some. I dont want to include stuff that some may not have. Just makes it easier for distribution and cuts down on questions.

RE: Frisco KD Route

Well, if you'd like my opinion, I'd suggest you use Hank's semaphores, then zip up the route using RouteRiter. As long as you put a disclaimer saying that the route requires XTracks 3.12 and Global TSection.dat 27 you're safe AND you'll have a LOT more flexibility in laying out the track AND be able to avoid using a lot of dynamic track sections. Just a word from a long-time route-builder but do as you like....JBD

RE: Frisco KD Route

Never had a problem with laying track. Dynamics arent to much of a problem If you know TDB, and you back up regularly.

RE: Frisco KD Route

How close to "reality" is this route going to be? Did you set up markers, etc. from aerial photos or use actual Frisco track diagrams? Please understand that I don't intend to come off as being critical, I just want to know what to expect before I consider downloading the route. IMHO, I can tolerate the track textures (I can always change those here on my own) and the British signals (I can also change those) but if the route is nothing but default scenery it doesn't sound very exciting. Still, it's one with REAL long-term potential....I also realize that this is a first release version. I still hope that you'll consider XTracks and, eventually, want to consider going to ScaleRails. That's the next upgrade for GM&O Northern Lines after this week's upcoming 1.8 release. Also hoping that you'll get as far east as Springfield, Mo eventually!JBD

LAST EDITED ON Nov-21-04 AT 11:22 PM (EST)

I used actual markers. 6374 and counting. I am also using track diagrams from Frisco.org. I have also travled portions of the route, and put over 2000 miles on my truck to get accurate information on something that is no longer there. I am using GPS, Lat and Lon, UTM's and anything else I have at my disposal. And as for Springfield, its not out of the question...It wasnt till just this last week I decided to add the Parsons Sub, as well as extend all the way to Pierce City, Mo. I have generally made my own scenery, such as water towers, depots, bridges, houses, other buildings, including the Coleman/Evcon plant, and United Warehouse. I will include Hanks signals. Those signals you were looking at were dead (notice the stop position), as signals tend to screw up a TDB if the tiniest error happens. All in all, I created this route for myself, but I have had some much fun with it, as well as learned so much history of the lines, that I mind as well let others enjoy it. I hav epictured here just a few of the objects I have put into the line. That water tower on the right is for beaumont, there is an interlocking gate down near the center, and that building in the back is the frisco shops in wichita.

I appreciate you wanting to keep everything default so folks don't have to download a bunch of extras. For this very reason, I originally avoided XTracks. One day it was required for a route I really wanted so I decided to give it a shot. I now know that XTracks is a very well done package and well supported. As a route builder it will give you way more options.Anyway, that is my 2c.Take care,

RE: Frisco KD Route

I understand your reluctance as well. I had one of the earlier versions of XTracks, which caused several problems. Since then, though, I've installed it and haven't had any problems with it in the last couple of years, which has included a couple of version upgrades. I've pretty much had to use it since I'm working on narrow gauge lines. You can still do some good stuff without it - landnrailroader's work is an excellent example.>I created this route for myself, but I have had some much fun with
>it, as well as learned so much history of the lines, that I mind as
>well let others enjoy it. Ah, there's a healthy attitude toward route building! I think that's the only way that will keep anyone working with the RE and putting up with its vagaries Andy
