While I was testing signals with AI trains at the MP3K's Cutbank trestle I was playing around and tried this:Put the Player train on the AI path on the trestle and waited for the next one to spawn at 12:10 on the straight just ahead of the Player train:AI Activity Amusements – image 1Here he is, waiting for the Player train to make a move, having been stopped by his RED signal: AI Activity Amusements – image 2 So lets give him a nudge I thought and see what happens:AI Activity Amusements – image 3 Throttled up to 90 mph and then slammed on the Player train's break and to my astonishment the AI shot off and is disappearing into the distance, going way past the spot from where he was spawned ! AI Activity Amusements – image 4 Now that opens all sort of questions. If that AI has a front coupler could the Player loco attach to it ? Could it then, pushing it, be coupled onto another stationary consist ? If not coupled could the AI be propelled down a slope and following it watch what happens to it ! Not what AI trains are meant to be doing but FUN nevertheless ! O t t o

RE: AI Activity Amusements

Otto, my man, you've got waaaaay too much time on your hands. As for interacting with AI: I thought I had a developed a system to where I could interact with AI trains. However, I could not get the process stable enough to utilize in an activity. For example, I got to where there was perhaps an 85% success rate in successfully having the AI couple onto the rear for a shove. The other 15%: Lock up.Bottom line: It won't work reliably enough for inclusion in my efforts.

I tried a bunch of that too, with the same results. I also wasted a bunch of time trying to get an AI loco to pick up a consist, by setting a turning point and diddling with the consist placement so it would be in just the right place to couple when the AI engine reversed direction. No joy there, either.

RE: AI Activity Amusements

It appears that once you shunt an AI in the opposite direction that it's meant to go in, then that AI loses its status as an AI and simply becomes a "kinetic" object.I have two fun variations: first, I shunt the AI train in the opposite direction at speeds in excess of 150 mph, slam on the brakes, and high ball it in the other direction; meanwhile, the shunted A1 train is hurtling towards another AI train 12 miles back, and I gotta get outta the "train derailed" zone before impact! The other is to go to speeds--using my modified mach3ster class50/Ese setup--in excess of 800mph and then uncouple the Ese coaches which catapults the class50 to mach2 or more for about five minutes, then slow down and find a "backtrack switch that the pursuing coaches (travelling at the speed of sound ) cannot use. Sometimes I'm real lucky and get away with it. It's great fun to see the "heavyweight coaches streak past, but the fun is not over yet, because as soon as the coaches are past me, I power up the mach3ster and hurtle past them on the next track where you can then rejoin the next track that the coaches are on and try to couple onto them doing several hundred miles an hour--it can be done.Mike
