Thanks Otto for fixing the sunk in signals, i will just wait for the fix to come out, I love the job you have done on this route, its just about the only route i run anymore.
Their is another problem and i don't know if anything can fix it and that is at cutbank, LAT -112.31367 LON 48.62793 which is right at the crossing that causes all the trains to come apart. I took out that crossing and piled up two trains on the third try and this is coming from Shelby going to Whitefish i lined the train to go through the Xover and no problems Of course i have the route backed up on CD but if you can figure a fix for that piece of track at the crossovers, it should make a lot of people happy! Again my trains didn't come apart they just went straight up in the air, what a mess
and i was only going the speed limit!!!!!!!!

RE: TO OTTODAD

Hi John !Had to sink the signals into the tunnel wall, Frank reminding me that they were too close to the trains. As they have no specific function I left them there more for decoration than anything else. As for the -112.31367 / 48.62793 crossing I am going to have a look into that.Inserted 3 twin cross-over nodes at 7.5 miles intervals into the twin-tracks west of Shelby which should take care of trains breaking apart. The only problem doing this is that guys who have created Activities and AI trains paths along that stretch will have to do them again. If trains still break apart there then I think it may be a case of the Bounding Boxes of some waggons being set too low ? Some of these tracks in the MARIAS-3 are not what they should be, waggons jumping up and down like yo-yos ! Will have to ask MP3K users what they would prefer ! RE: TO OTTODAD

Hi John !Did a test run over that Cutbank road crossing and twin-nodes on both tracks and no problems at all ! That's after I inserted 3 twin-nodes into that 22 miles twin-tracks stretch west of Shelby.I had no problems there when Swissie mentioned problems at Cutbank and before I added the additional nodes, which makes me think that it has more to do with Couplers and Bounding Box settings than anything else !Take Care, O t t o.To Ottodad – image 2 To Ottodad – image 3 To Ottodad – image 4 To Ottodad – image 5

RE: TO OTTODAD

Hi Sir Otto:Looks like you may have solved the "Cutbank Node" problem with additional switches. Maybe the MSTS community can arrange a Knighthood for you.Few questions < of course >. You didn't mention any modifications to the signal system. Do they still operate properly? Have you run an activity over the new paths with same and opposite direction AI traffic to check signal operation? Are the new switches signaled? Hope I haven't opened a can of worms.JohnPS: Your last email: Now that I KNOW it's broke I HAVE to fix it!!

RE: TO OTTODAD

Hi John Buddy !Thanks for the Knighthood ! Go easy with the sword tapping me on the shoulder ! Is there any money to go with it ? The funny thing is that I did not have any problems in the Cutbank area prior to inserting these nodes and No, the switches are not covered with signals.I have updated the MARIAS-3 part of the route with the MARIAS-3.1 Signals Fix and so far have not heard from anybody about them not working as they should.Would not help much knowing if there were some, me being totally ignorant as far as signalling is concerned and no match for the SIGNALMASTER ! Below is what the Shelby to Cutbank stretch looks like now. But having changed the tracks there would that cause problems for some who have already used this Path for Activities Player and AI trains ?I am going to put this update on my Web site for heavy Activity users to test, but if anybody does then Please BACK-UP the MARIAS-KOOTENAI first !!!It's a Self-Extracting .EXE and will install into the Default MSTS C:\ folders. If on another Drive the Installer's Drive Letter needs to be changed !www.otto-wipfel.co.uk/downloads/mp3kfix2.zipTake Care, O t t oTo Ottodad – image 6

RE: TO OTTODAD

Sir Otto:
Sorry, no money involved, just good will.As for paths and activities, all paths for activities will have to be modified to reflect proper path through new turnouts. The reason I mentioned the signals is that some time ago Cyndi had conferred with Lukas about adding turnouts between Shelby & Cutbank. IIRC he told her that all signals and track objects would have to be moved to the other track before installing the new turnouts. Then moved back after installation and the same done to the opposite track. If any problems to develop, I'm sure he can help.John

RE: TO OTTODAD

Hi John !Like I said, I am no expert on Signalling and interactive AI Activities. I prefer FREESTYLE Player Paths and AI Traffic running on separate tracks unless deliberately choosing to drive onto the AI trains track. Like I can do in SNIPER's PON-9.So I did an experiment running my SANTA-FE Explorer on the left track out of Shelby and in the opposite direction on the other track had SF-Expresses out of Cutbank coming towards me on the other track at 10 minutes intervals.Let two pass and then decided to cross over onto the AI track, no defined Player Path there letting me do that but indicting danger with an amber/yellow signal. An AI already on that section not being aware of my train having entered it of course run into my train. Would signals at that cross-over Node have been red to stop me doing that, the other track being occupied ?Lots to learn yet ! Will leave it to the Expert "Activitists" to test this newly noded stretch and if there is anything I can do to signalling under guidance without screwing up the works will do so ! I prefer using my SANTA-FE Explorer for test jobs like that, being faster than other trains ! It can test run the 363 miles of the entire route in about 1.5 hours, being capable of 250+ mph on average ! To Ottodad – image 7 To Ottodad – image 8 To Ottodad – image 9 To Ottodad – image 10

RE: TO OTTODAD

Otto:Signaled x-overs would definitely prevent unauthorized occupancy by displaying absolute red. One of the minor problems with MP31 is that the sigcfg file is set to 6 signals. That is, the next 6 signals have to be clear to get a clearance for the upcoming block. I edited the file so it only reads the next 2 signals. Cuts down on waiting times. When it comes to working on the signal system in the RE, I need 5 people. 1 telling me what to do; 1 to guide my hands on the keyboard; 2 looking over my shoulders; and 1 to wipe my brow.John
