Greetings!I'm thinking of getting Raildriver for Christmas (or maybe earlier for St. Nicholas Day, Dec. 6). I've read a lot of the threads related to the product on the forums here, and most of the comments are positive. However, some people mention having to fiddle with files. I can do that, but how often does that actually have to be done? For the foreign routes more than the domestic ones? Thanks for any advice.Regards,Rainer
Hi Rainer,I have had RailDriver since it first came out and would be lost without it. I love it. True, you may have to "fiddle" with a few eng files on some add-on engines. I have had to do very little.I suggest you go to http://raildriver.com/ and look around. Get their manual and instruction kits for eng files. If you get a RailDriver download their latest RailDriver program. They have a well built machine and first rate support.Good luck.Regards,
RD is a fantastic piece of equipment given how little MSTS gave them to work with. It is a solid unit that is not chincy in any way. Usually, the only thing I have to adjust on diesels is the engine brake line in the the eng file. Most engines come with a line .025 for the increment. I change it to .0125, and it works much better with the engine brake without hunting. I believe they give sample .eng files to mimic. You will NOT regret the investment.Bryce
I bought my Raildriver way back when they had the offer to buy in advance and save a few bucks. I've never regreted it! What a difference in the way you run trains.I once went back to running a train with the keyboard just to see if I could remember the keystrokes. After being used to the Raildriver, where movements become second nature, almost an afterthought, it was like going back to the days of black and white TV sets. I rapidly went returned to the RD.A side note on their service, My original RD had an internal problem. I called the RD company and Tim talked me through some tests to see if we could trouble shoot it and fix it. We had no luck so Tim told me to send the unit back and they would replace it. The next morning,a Friday, I went to the UPS office and sent it back. On Monday the new unit was waiting for me when I got home from work! Obviously Tim had sent my replacement the same day I returned mine. The UPS trucks must have passed each other on the highway. How many companies do you do business with that would even think of doing such a thing? You will never be sorry for buying this fine product. Earl
FWIW I visited the PIEngineering offices in October for their open house and had a chance to meet the guys and see their operation. They were friendly and helpful and genuinely enthusiastic. I left with a RailDriver and I definitely enjoy using it. I haven't had to edit anything yet. As good as it operates with the current MSTS I expect it will be spectacular with the TMTS when it comes out as indeed it should work wonderfully with any program that allows for external contollers.(I saw it in action with TRS2004 and it was seamless)Bill Alder
Raildriver will work on all routes and trains. You won't be dissappointed. I bought mine when it first came out and saved $25. I got it on Christmas eve in 2002. It was the best Christmas present I bought for myself. You won't regret it. I won't run MSTS without it. As for their tech support, they are top notch. My RD went out a few months later and I got a replacement free and shipping was free. The Guys at PI Engineering are Great! Ken Plaza
