I don't know what has happened, but when I try to run Shape File Viewer, I now get an error message that says "You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality". Has anyone else had this problem. The same message occurred when trying to use the one installed with Route Riter 6. I have uninstalled RR6, ConBuiler 2+, and Shape File Viewer, then reinstalled SFV by itself, even an older version. Still no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

That is exactly the error, and exactly what I thought might be the problem. My question is how would I determine what Active X control is involved so that I can either re-register it, or I can re-install it. Does anyone know which active X controls are used by these programs, and why re-installing them does not "fix" the problem?

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

Hi
This info is at the link provided. You tried to place an ActiveX control on a form at design time or tried to add a form to a project with an ActiveX control on it, but the associated information in the registry could not be found.
The information in the registry may have been deleted or become corrupted. Reinstall the ActiveX control or contact the control vendor.Reinstall and the registry will be updated/corrected

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

Post Script:VBC.EXE is found in the new .NET folder, so perhaps you need to see if reinstalling .Net helps.

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have reinstalled .NET 1.1. I got the VB "fix" and have run that. I have reinstalled Route Riter. I have reinstalled Shape File Viewer. Still the same problem. I am going to try find a re-install for activeX and see if that helps. Thanks again for all the suggestions. Any new ones will be appreciated. Will post back here if I find a solution.

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

Hi Joe,These types of error are listed by Microsoft as Design Time errors and only apply to users who have Visual Basic installed on their machine, and should not apply to end-users. The VB fix is only applicable to programmers who have problems opening some .ocx when using VB.Error 429 which some users have reported with Route-Riter occurs when the Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1 is not installed on the PC, or the InitTokens.bat file has not been run to install the Tokens, or both. However MS Shape File Viewer by Paul Gausden does not use .Net and the viewer .ocx he uses was written by him, so should have no licence problems.Mike

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

Hi Wayne,The shape file viewer does not use .Net - Route-Riter does, but the original queries here were with the stand alone SFV.Mike

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

For Joe,I received the following from Paul this afternoon, I do not know if it is of any help to you?FYI, the .dll in question is DX8VB.dll and the version on my machine is 5.3.2600.2180 which I think is the latest available, if you need it, let me know.quote
Hi Mike,I can only assume he has some odd version of the VB6 runtime installed.
The trainlib OCX only depends on that and the DirectX8 VB DLL.
Not one I've seen before.
Another possibility might be that he has an expired directX beta version?RegardsPaul

RE: Problem with MSTS Shape Viewer

That is my version of dx8vb.dll. And dxdiag reports everything as fine. Thanks for trying to assist. Something must not be "registered" properly. I may reinstall directx 9.0 and see if that helps.
