Work on the new cars is progressing rapidly. In fact I've nearly cobbled eveything together to make a release. First, the new car. I just finished this channel side 89' flatcar today. This car is common on today's rails, and has been that way for several decades (at least two decades in this scheme alone). I'm using the freight animantion tag to load these cars, so it's easy to make a diverse amount of cars with just a few shape files. I'm close to finishing this first set of three cars and several trailers. I plan to make more trailer and container loads in the near future as part of future releases. Here are some pics of the new car. Ted Curphey

RE: New Car, New Trailers

I'm using several trailers that were included in my AP well sets, but I'm also creating new items. Just tonight I created SP, DRGW and BN trailers. This will probably be the last new trailers I make before my inital release of the set. But I have photos of plenty of other equipment that I can use in future releases. But my hope is that reskinners and other model makers will take my models and run with it. These cars will be quite a bit easier to reskin than previous releases.Ted Curphey

Hi TedA new Hard Disk of 120 Giga was ordered...the old 80 giga is becoming too small since you started releasing your models.I like them, downloaded all and renumbered additional different numbers for each set.The first well cars are now 30 different numbers and the way and speed you go, my Disk will be full...............quickly.Keep this enthusiasm going...Thank you

There are some "Preferred" TOFC's in the files area. Two version I think, not sure if they are what you speak of, but they look pretty nice.Chris Bogley

RE: New Car, New Trailers

Wow those cars look great! I see them in intermodal trains every once in a while. On a rare occasion a trailer will be loaded across two cars. Would that be possible in MSTS?C h r i sNew Car, New Trailers – image 13

RE: New Car, New Trailers

There is such a combo in the files area. Don't recall the name of the file, but it is in the Containers / Trailers section. They started putting a trailer between two cars when the 53' long trailer was introduced into intermodel. It was determined that it was a waste of a 89' flat to have 1 53' trailer on it, so someone came up with the idea to put 3 53' trailers on 2 89' flats. The MSTS version, while not the greatest, does the trick nicely using 2 JB Hunts, and a Pumpkin (Schneider).Chris Bogley

Nice work!! I really like the intermodal equipment you've done so far. I'm just curious, are you planning on working on some tank style intermodal equipment, for example, 20 ft. tanks which some of them read "Suttons" on them? That IMHO, would be a very welcome addition to the file library. Anyway, keep up the good work

To FunnelfanFirst let me say that those are some nice models. Can't wait to have them all downloaded. But one question on another subject. How did you get you tracks to look like that? They are far more different than how they look in my routes.

RE: New Car, New Trailers

Here are some of the new trailers; including Santa Fe, MO-PAC, a clean SP, and a 45' TIP. I'll probably deviate from the above list of trailers quite a bit as I get more photos. I have an affinity for trailers that were common in the late 80's and throughout the 1990'sTed Curphey

RE: New Car, New Trailers

Ted, they look great, as does the first set, but is there any chance you can upload them with the improved bounding boxes? It is very difficult to run them and the all purpose well cars over Tehachapi without them bouncing off each other in the tight curves and thus stalling the train.Chris Bogley

I can make a double Santa Fe trailer set easy enough. In fact I need to get some suggestions for trailer combinations that people would like to see. But I'm still making trailers, so that can wait. Here are three Preferred 45 trailers, including one with Milwaukee Road placards.Ted Curphey

RE: New Car, New Trailers

Great stuff Ted, but you either missed or avoided my thread on the bounding boxes. As much as I have wanted and waited for these type of cars and combinations, I can't run them on the route I normally run, Tehachapi. Till I can figure out how to correct the problem, they sit in a yard in Bakersfield.Chris Bogley

I'll have to experiment with the bounding boxes. I was leaving the bounding boxes at the same size as the size part of the car. The figures for the bounding box are found in the .sd file.Ted Curphey

RE: New Car, New Trailers

Funnelfan,I agree that your cars are some of the best out there. I would like to suggest that you make your Bounding Boxes be 1.0 units shorter (total) than the length, and have the second value of the ESD box be at least 0.8. I am currently using 1.0 to be sure I'm not bumping into the track. With the bounding box being the same as the size, they cannot turn without hitting each other. For your AP Well cars, the size you have in the wag file is:3.048m 1.798m 22mThe Bounding Box I am setting in the .sd is:ESD_Bounding_Box ( -1.524 1 -10.5 1.524 1.798 10.5 )The second value is a 1 which tells the box to be 1 meter above the rail. I notice that you have the overall height in the size line defined as being only 1.798m, but that does not matter too much to the operation of the car. The 3rd and 6th numbers in the ESD line are the leangth distances from center of the Bounding Box. Notice that they add to a abosolute value of 21 (ignore the negative) which is 1 less than the length you have in the size line. This allows the couplers to be coupled, and the cars to turn without the bounding boxes touching. The bounding box is what the sim considers to be the solid area of the car, so you don't want them to touch. Thanks again for all of the work on your fine rolling stock.Bryce
