Just downloaded the CSX M&M sub from here yesterday, also downloaded X-tracks. When I go to play it I get an error message reading "train world initialization failed". No real read me file included with download. Anyone know who Terry Dickerson the creator is? Maybe he could help. Thanks in advance.

RE: CSX M&M sub error, Terry Dickerson

This error normally means that something is amiss in the environment folder. I don't have this route, but frequently this is caused if there is an "installme.bat" in the route folder, and you haven't run it yet.If it's there, you would normally be expected to have all six default routes installed. Take a look, and if it's there, run it...regards,
charlie

Sometimes, for unknown reasons, when you run the BAT file, the objects will not get copied, and you can see this if you look closely in the black box. It will say "0 objects copied". Often when this occurs to me, which has only been a handful of occasions, I just turn my PC off and restart it and it runs fine.Chris Bogley

RE: CSX M&M sub error, Terry Dickerson

Hi Randy,as Chris states: Most probably, your .bat file couldn't find the folder to copy the environmental files (.env) and textures from (these files are those for the weather, skies etc.). Apart from a "real hick-up" as described by Chris, the most common cause why a .bat file will fail to copy these files is either
- that a user has uninstalled the default routes (seven, if you include the tutorial route in your count), or
- that a user has at least deleted too many subfolders out of them: Apart from the obvious shapes and textures folder, you should also keep the Envfiles, Sounds, Terrtex folders of each one of the default routes, as a lot of stuff also is copied into new installations from these locations.
- Another possible cause is that a user has deleted the folder train simulator/templates, which can also serve as source for proper installations (folder architecture, default envfiles etc).Anyway: To fix your route, open the .trk file in the MM folder with WordPad. Look for which .env files it calls for. Then open the EnvFiles folder within the MM folder, and check that a) the files are indeed there, b) the names match, and c) all .ace files called for within the .env files are present in the subfolder EnvFiles/Textures.RouteRiter (available in the file library) can help you find the required files and fix the environment. Once that is fixed, the "train world initialisation" error will cease to bug you.Cheers,Lukas a.k.a Swissie
