Hi thereFinally I have decided to buy a RailDriver.
But now I'm not very happy with it - it doesn't work as it's supposed to...I can start MSTS via the RailDriver-Manager but can not control the train.
When I drive my train with the keyboard, the LCD display shows the actual speed (so RD is obviousliy able to read the HUD?),
but no reaction when moving levers or pushing buttons (only Run/Stop in lower left corner act as it should)I found in older threads that I am not the only one with the same problem, but I did not find a solution to this problem.I think something went wrong with the drivers at the installation. In the Hardware Manager I find under "Keyboards" a problem with an "unknown device".
When I try to reinstall drivers, it installs "Asus OSD PS/2 Keyboard Filter Driver".
Then ist asks for the file anvosdnt.sys, starting in C:\Windows\Temp
I have found the file in my folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers and told to take this file.
But after the install sequence I get an error message telling me that install has failed because
"a file can not be created when it is already existant"
(the original text in german is: "Eine Datei kann nicht erstellt werden, wenn sie bereits vorhanden ist")I have no idea what's all about but I think this is the origin of my trouble. Can anybody help me, please! My specs are:
Win XP Pro, SP2
P4 2.66
512 MB RAM
nVidia GeForce4 Ti4400, driver version 6.14.10.6177
Monitor hp L1720 flat screenI really would appreciate your help.Thank you very much!!Greetings from Switzerland
Dominik

RE: RailDriver Problem

When you first plug RD into a USB port you should see a "New Hardware Found, HID device" or something to that effect. (Human Interface Device, in Windowsspeak, essentially means a device that humans use to input stuff as opposed to a camera, scanner, etc).Try a re-installation of the Raildriver drivers, then remember to calibrate the device prior to use. Also note that if you're running multiple simulators on your system, such as Trainz2004 and/or TrainMaster, you'll need to install Raildriver once for each sim you have on the system. The RD menu screen that appears when you start up the CD makes that an easy task.If this doens't work, post again and we'll try to get you running. Beleive me, it's worth the effort. Once you use your new toy you'll never touch the keyboard again.

RE: RailDriver Problem

I have the latest drivers, done re-install, calibration (though I do not think it is a problem of calibration, because the blue buttons don't work either), the whole bunch... that is why I'm so desperate...The PIBus / PI Virtual Keyboard / PIBus Device in Hardware Manager shows no problems.
I have attached a screenshot of my Hardware Manager, maybe it helps. Thanks for help

OK it's definitely a hardware issue: Windows isn't seeing your device.Question: Are you plugging the RD into a USB hub or one of the ports on the back of the computer? I ask because sometimes the hubs cause problems. I had that once with a digital camera - I had to plug it into the motheboard's USB ports directly or else Win wouldn't recognize it. Also, do other USB devices work on that same port?
Can you uninstall the Ubekanntes Gerat? Maybe it's causing a conflict

RE: RailDriver Problem

>>Are you plugging the RD into a USB hub or one of the ports on the back of the computer?<<I have about 6 USB-ports on the back and on the front of my PC (no hub). I have tried them all, and other USB devices work well. When I unplug the RailDriver USB connection and then plugin again, the assistant for new hardware pops up. As if it never had been installed...>>Can you uninstall the Ubekanntes Gerat? Maybe it's causing a conflict<<I am sure it's causing a conflict, that is my problem. When I uninstall it, the RailDriver does not work either and at next startup it wants me to install this "Asus OSD PS/2 Keyboard Filter Driver" which I think is this unknown device ("unbekanntes Gerät") under the Keyboards in Device Manager. And then I get this install error message...I really have no idea what to do...Dominik

RE: RailDriver Problem

Of course, I have sent an email to RailDriver as well, but as they don't work on sundays, I was hoping to get a quicker answer to my problem here.To Otto: I tried The-Train.de but couldn't visit their page. First it was loading some minutes, then I got the "page not found" message.Anyway, thank you very much for your advice!

RE: RailDriver Problem

This is a pretty obvious question but, are you using the "RailDriver RunSelect" blue button in the lower left corner of your RaiDriver?

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Hi thereA very BIG THANK YOU to Tim Court from Raildriver and Guenter Zehnel from Aerosoft Germany for their Support! We have been in contact now for a week and tried the one or the other thing to make it work... (and you can try a lot within a week). After all, it was a remark by Guenter in an e-mail, about not having much experience with Microsoft SP 2 and Raildriver (my Windows Installation is in german language) - so I decided to uninstall Microsh*t Service Pack 2 and it works now!Again, a big compliment and a eternal thank you to RailDriver and Aerosoft Support!Greetings from Switzerland
Dominik (a very happy man)

Hold the phone ,Jeff, are we saying that SP 2 is not compatable with our Raildrivers??I'm still trying to come to a decision on upgrading to SP 2 and I sure don't want to ruin my MSTS experience by doing the wrong thing.Who else has a Raildriver that is working with SP 2, or not!Wild Willy the WackoP.S. Glad you are onboard Dominik.

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Hi WW,Who else has a Raildriver that is working with SP 2, or not!I have SP2 and RailDriver. No problems at all for me. The only problem I had with SP2 was with Route_Riter. Version 6.1.16 of Route_Riter fixed that.Regards,

Waldo

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

I loaded SP2 on 3 test machines at work with MSTS to make sure, All worked fine, although I have now breathed a sigh of relief and can sleep at night knowing that you are now happily driving trains with the RD unit, The theory I have is that SP2 may have been stopping comminication in line back from MSTS or alternatively preventing the key commands reaching it becuase it was stopping the USB Keyboard driver which your ASUS one was from operating so the machine would not read keyboard through the USB, we have had this on a couple of occasions with the X-Kesy when people do not have the USB keyboard checked to "Yes" in the system Bios.Anyway, one thing to bear in mind if you do run SP2 is to make sure that the firewall is off when you first configure SP2 and are using an external one like Norton, I have had many issues at work with that one and SP2 doesn't like you disabling the windows firewall after.I have bookmarked this post in case anyone gets this again.TimRailDriver Problem – image 2

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Ditto what Waldo said. Raildriver fine w/SP2, RouteRiter with the latest version and .net v1.1 installed. In fact, and this is far from scientific, I think Raildriver is slightly smoother at low speeds than SP1.

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Hello allAfter uninstalling SP2 and installing RD, I thought it was time for experiments and I re-installed SP2, just to see what happens...And now it still works... it seems, when you have the needed drivers already installed before SP2, it doesn't touch them, but when you do the setup under SP2 it has something that causes problems...Well, however, mine works, and I hope for all current and future users of RailDriver their machines do as they are supposed to because it's really an improvement on MSTS, it's just like beginning again the first day driving trains on the PC, and very much more fun!Greetings from Switzerland

HI,How can I check to see if firewall in SP2 is off? I have it installed, but don't remember being asked. I don't believe I had firewall on before it was installed, but don't know for sure.Thanks.Bryce

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Control Panel | Security Center
Alternatively, you can right-click the network status icon (2 monitors overlapping) in the system tray and select "Windows firewall settings"

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

SP Frank,Thanks. I actually don't have either of those things--nothing in my control panel about security, and no "monitors" in the system tray. I'm on DSL, and I have a physical, external fire wall, so I guess MS firewall would have never been turned on, and apparently is still not on....which is good. Thanks for the help.Bryce

RE: RailDriver Problem - NO PROBLEM

Bryce -One final thing to check the status of the Win firewall:Start, then right-click My Network Places, select properties then right-click "Local Area Connection", then select Properties, click on the Advanced tab. (Ain't doing things in Windows easy????? lol)From there you can enable/disable the win firewall.Frank
