I'm working on a replacement for those gawd awful "brickpile" tunnel portals that are in the game. Here is what I have so far, but I'll probably rework the textures somewhat. Any other suggestions?Ted Curphey

About both this, and also your signal bridge, will you make this so that we can use it to directly overwrite the default?

Hi Ted!That will be a most useful addition for route builders. If there is a way to set up a series of separate textures for the date, that would be gravy. Thanks for sharing!Henry

RE: A better Tunnel Portal.

I will probably leave the date, as I like it. The retaining wall wings to the tunnel are modeled in 3D, and extend 12' out from the tunnel face. In fact the whole hillside that you see is part of the model. The multiple texture idea is a good idea for making the hillside match various textures.Ted Curphey

RE: A better Tunnel Portal.

Glad you like the route. Actually those are wolves. Since that new portal has that terrain included with it, you will have a texture mismatch at Tunnel 32 above timberline. I also noticed that with at least one portal, it's terrain sticks out in mid-air because the actual terrain sits well behind it. It also seems that, if you use this new portal, it sits too low, so you would want to raise each one, if that does not put the outer portion above ground. It also has no snow texture, so the terrain is a mismatch in snow mode. I tried it and deleted it.

RE: A better Tunnel Portal.

You will need to use the route editor to resolve some of the minor issues at a few locations. But for the most part the new tunnel portals work great. I'll work on making a update with snow textures.Ted Curphey

RE: A better Tunnel Portal.

Thanks Don. Say do you have some pics of some of the other tunnels on this line? I'm looking for a good pic of a rock tunnel with no concrete portal. Maybe we can make a better update for the route that is more inclusive. Also some good qualitiy photos of the terrian around the tracks, particularly on the east slope could be useful.BTW, I also have a collection of photos from a ex-SP dispatcher who passed away a number of years ago. He was a operator at Plainview for the DSL from 1928 to 1933. Plenty of pics of plainview and the rainbow cut, as well as Tabernash, Denver and more. I scanned in a few of the pics, but I don't have a flatbed scanner anymore.Ted Curphey

RE: A better Tunnel Portal.

Ted,I certainly was disappointed to have found no accurate tunnel portals for the route. I was thrilled when someone made the two Moffat Tunnel portals that I was able to get into Version 2. One great source of actual portal shots is in a cabview video that I have. Most tunnel portals appear to have been just original rock, updated with concrete or cement with dates of about 1941, and carved with tunnel numbers like "T12". Here is one link with lots of tunnel photos:http://ghostdepot.com/rg/mainline/moffat%20route/moffat%20route.htmI'll check to see what other photos I have. I would be happy to scan your pictures if you want me to. Please clarify what you have in mind with regard to "photos of the terrain around the tracks".Here is a pic, tongue in cheek of course, of the west portal of Tunnel 31 (the one with 2 portals as discussed above), as it looked last year long after caving in:
