I think it's a sign – image 1

LAST EDITED ON Sep-24-04 AT 06:19 PM (EDT)

A very bad omen indeed... Chad (ssw_96) sent me this link... if you have the NS pack you'll recognize the number of the lead unit in these shots... http://greenvilleonline.com/news/images/20040924_OR_Train/looks like I better pull it from the NS pack line-up... LOL. j/k.
...and yes I see that it now has an AC unit... but it didn't in the older pics I have of it so there! =|GoldenPig

RE: I think it's a sign...

I hope nobody was driving along the road when that happened - it could have been very nasty for any passing motorists. We had in incident in Whitby, Ontario, a while ago when a train derailed while passing over a bridge (or just as it was about to cross). Some of the cars fell off the bridge onto the road below, just as a mini-van was passing. The driver and her daughter were both killed.John

Yes, John, Very sad incident indeed in Whitby...It looks as though someone in a black SUV hit one of the derailed autoracks. Fortunately, from what I make of it, damage of the car around the area the passengers sit looks minimal, hope they were all alright.

I was gonna say the same,it does look like that one car hit the over turned railcar. Lucky for them they hit the roof which is sheet metal and not the body of the railcar.

From the looks of it those racks were loaded. This is one expensive wreck.

I wonder how many of those vehicles that are still in "bordeline new" condition will be cleaned up and sold as new to unsuspecting buyers. Knowing how insurance companies operate . . . .

RE: I think it's a sign...

Yea was a mess up there in Pacolet indeed. That train (NS 238 Atlanta Ga - Charleston SC) runs by my house about 2 hours south of the incident. I think there were 2 separate derailments in the train totaling about 20-35 rail cars. (BTW , in those autoracks were BMW X-5 SUVS that were picked up fromm BMW in Greer SC about 20miles North of the derailment).

That is not a possibility!! I worked at the Ford Plant on the CNR and we had 3 auto racks of Lincoln Cont. overturn on the curve to the loading bucks. Most of the cars were not damaged at all, not even minor scratchs , they were tied down too well. We attempted to put bids in, but were told that all would be put in a crusher as they were written off by the insurance. That is suposed to be the policy industry wide.CPTrainman63r

Last summer CP #106 the eastbound autorack & intermodal train derailed west of town at MP 88. The engineer was at fault... The train has doing 47mph in a 10mph GBO zone, slammed the two GEAC44's into dynamic without going through it slowly and the train ended up going up the side of a mountain. It looked pretty funny.. Three trilevels were on top of each other on a 70 degree angle Anywase... The engineer got 45 brownie points, and got stuck onto the Schrieber U11 Terrace Bay turn for some time along with his conductor. If I gave you a Toyota and a Mazda to bring to Agincourt, ON, Quebec City, QC, & Montreal, QC and they get wrecked what would I think of you...180 vehicles in total were destroyed, most given to schools and instuties to conduct testing. The autoracks sat in Schrieber 30 miles west of the wreck just until a few months ago when they were brought to Thunder Bay.The sides are bent... Make a box out of paper and bend it so the sides are on a 50 degree angle... Thats what they like like now... BTTX, ETTX, TTGX about 20 of them... -Canada Eh!
