RE: burning a copy

Probably some copy protection device..!!!
An alternative is to do a clean install..a matter of minutes..include updates/patches...and depending if you have a CD or DVD burner you 'compress'and burn.
But knowing the clever lot out there someone will come up with the correct procedure
There copies still in shops and selling at bargain prices..in the UK anyway..

RE: burning a copy

You cannot copy the disks, the second disk has some sort of copy protection coding written in. (Actually, you can copy it all you want, it just won't work.)They are, however, still available at many retail stores. Just the other day someone here was pointing out that their local retailer was selling MSTS for what now seems like an exhorbitant price, but many have found them for around $20.You might also find a copy on e-Bay.MC

Burning disc 2 is possible, you just have to do an "image" burn rather than a data burn. I'm not exactly sure how it all works, but it works.Blake Harris

I did that too. How long your machine did read the disc 2?I think that those copy protections are developed by the devil himself, they are only making the life of the legal owner more difficult. The worst ones are based on some kind of copy protection bit which must be _moved_ to HD from a floppy and then back if you want to reinstall. But how is that possible *when* the hard disk is broken and the company which made the software does not exist anymore?
I have to fix these things at work, and you can't believe how much I hate those copy protections. If I can buy a $500000 machine, why would I get pirated software for it (and those programs are useless without the machine which they control)?

Yeah it`s me again I tried burning it as a image and it didn`t work or I don`t get it. I live in New Brunswick Canada and I called at every Radio Shack, Wall-Mart, Zellers that I could and it`s all the same thing it`s discontinued. If anyone could send me a copy of
disk 2 I`ll be more than happy to pay the shipping and etc... I`m working on Newcastle Subdivision and as soon that I`m dune Ì`ll upload it to train-sim .I got aerial pictures and topo maps etc... It would be a big waste if iI could not finish it. I`m only online after 4:15 pm on week days.

RE: burning a copy

It is no big deal if you have windows xp and 2 drives. Put original disk in 1 drive, blank disk in the other, and click on copy, from original to blank. It ignores all so called protection. And the discs produced will work as originals. Anyone who says different is mistaken.Likewise you use zonealarm for intrusions, and adaware for spyware, anything else is rubbish, although spybot is ok.David

RE: burning a copy

Copy protection is ok, if it works. Msts protection is less than pathetic, because it doesn't work. I copied it without any bother, and I was not even aware they had any protection. While I had no intention of passing the game on to anyone else, (my originals were in scratchy cardboard sleeves, who designed that?), I have used the copies to reinstall with no problem.David

I fixed that first day. Took them out of the cardboard and put them in a double jewel case. Still as pristine as when I bought it.

RE: burning a copy

Using CloneCD or Alcohol will take a while in the beginning on SafeDisk 1 & 2 type protections. The first 1000-1500 sectors are deliberately flawed (that's how the protection works).Once it gets past the opening sectors, everything should speed up to normal.Scott

RE: burning a copy

To reiterate on Jeff's point (since me and him had a discussion on CD's one time): (and he can correct me on this)You can't expect that to happen. You can't use 2 CD drives (one master and one slave) and expect the burned CD to be like the original. If there was not copy protection that would be the case, the burned CD would be like the original in every aspect. With copy protection, somewhere during the burn process you'll hit the track that has the copy protection on it. This will have the CD to be like a coaster. Works but doesn't work. That's whay CD-RW's aer good, if you don't like it erase it and use it again. There are a lot of copy protection software out there but this is 2004. for every copy protection scheme out there, someone has broken it or circumvented around it. Do a web search on Copy Protection on CD's and DVD's and you should get a basic idea on the whole idea and process. on and Jeff, you cna correct me on this or slap me upside the head.

RE: burning a copy

You can copy MSTS without much trouble my friend,you probably miss something during the task;
its "protection" it's something very old and manageable you don't need anything else than an old version of Clone even Nero can do it,they used to put fake files or data into the Audio Sub channel sectors of the CD,where no reader goes to seek,if you use Clone,be sure that your reader it is able to read those sectors (check Clone compatibility)and you writer can do RAW-DAO.
