I was trying to download the AMT commuter train last night. I saved it to the computer, but it didn't have a readme file. I try to put it in the game, but I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Can someone, please, tell me exactly what to do? (every tiny detail)

Not sure what file you are talking about. When you say a commuter train, do you mean the whole thing, or just the engine or cars? In any event, it should have some sort of read me type file to explain how to install it. It won't always be called "read me", so be sure and look in the zip file for another name.Find the zip file and double click on it. Along the top, you will want to look for a "extract" button. Click on that, than provide the path for the zip file to extract the contents to. If this is your first time using Winzip, than you'll need to set up the path by clicking on C Drive, then Microsoft Games, then Train Simulator, than TRAINS and finally TRAINSET. Extract the contents, and they will go to where ever you direct them to. I actually extract them to My Documents, change the ENG files a bit, modify the couplers, and then copy the completed folder over to the TRAINSET folder. But for you, just extract them to the TRAINSET folder. Once you can do that, than if you wish, in the future, you can send them to another place first, then copy them over. I download many, many files sometimes in a single day, and is easier to keept track of them by putting them someplace else first. Now the next time you download, when you click to extract, it will already have the directory in there, so all you will need to do is extract the files. If it is a route, than you would need to change the directory to the ROUTES folder.Be careful not to click on a file when you enter Winzip. What will happen is when you go to extract the file,s it will only extract the file you opened becasue you more or less had highlighted it when you clicked on it, at least that is what happens to me. You will be able to read the read me once all the files are extracted by going into your TRAINSET folder, finding the newly created folder, and opening it.Hope this helps.Chris Bogley

RE: Not getting this whole downloading thing

It's my first time using winzip for the trainsim. I have SimCity4 and I use it all the time. I'm trying to figure out what's the difference between those and these. I still can't get this train AMT PH40 w/ cab car and coaches) I did what you said but now I can't find the files anywhere. Oy, I'm getting a headache.

Keep in mind that WINZIP will remember where you extracted "to" in the past... the files may have been extracted to a location used in the long past...You might want to overide it and place the files in C:\TEMP for example. Pete Willard

RE: Not getting this whole downloading thing

As Pete said, look at where your sending those files. They might be going to another location other than your TRAINSET folder. Your computer will put those files where ever you tell it to regardless of where the sim is. Like I said above, you will need to set up the path. Now sometimes in addition to extracting the files, I have to click on "checkout" along the same task bar, also sometimes a file will install in a "Program Files" folder within my TRAINSET folder, in which case I will have to open that folder, find the file I need and copy that directly into my TRAINSET folder. If you still are having problems, e-mail me, and I can give you my number if you want to call me and I will walk you through it personally.tailsnrails@hotmail.comChris Bogley

Microsoft Train Simulator - Diesel Locomotives
MSTS AMT F40-PH
Name: packamt.zip Size: 22,477,957 Date: 01-02-2003 Downloads: 1142
MSTS AMT F40-PH and commuter control cab/coach. Fictional Agence Metropolitaine de Transport of Montreal commuter equipment. Original by NALW. Repainted by Benoit Sigouin.Thats the one I just found by searching AMT. I have always had trouble with this one as well, in all my Train Simulator experiences , I have never been able to get this installed and running . Various people have given me fixes for it , but I don't think I ever tried it.Shane

This is the exact one! It's good to know I'm not the only one with problems with it.

Hi Brian & Chris, If you haven't figured it out yet, this is what I have found wrong. In the path of the installer you must remove the "s" from the word programs. Then it will install properly. The other error is the consist files. They were not created correctly be cause they call for the NALW cars. Attached are the correct consist files. Just delete AMT 1 through 4 & replace with these.
