Tried it before and could not make it work. But having to check out 360 miles of track in both directions in my friends MARIAS-3 KOOTENAI extended route I had another go at creating a non-stop Activity running from SHELBY to ATHOLL and back again, there being Reverse Loops at both ends of the route. Had to take Road Crossings needing the loco's horn to be blown out of the World files, stopping the Player train otherwise and a few loose consists which where on the by the AE's determined players path.On the left is the Atholl Loop and on the right the START POINT on this Shelby siding, the toggled END POINT passing the switch towards that Loop stopping at a short dead-end:Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 1Taking the other Exit at that switch, the path finished halfway inside the Loop as it did during previous trials in some of my tracks test routes. So I marked it as "Broken".Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 2But this time I DELETED it:Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 3and would you know it, the Player Path now went through the LoopActivity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 4and all the way to the other end of the route at Atholl and stopped at another dead-end there, going past the Loop's entry switch. But this time I did not get an option to "Exit" the switch to point the path into that Reverse Loop:Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 5Thought I had better SAVE what I did so far end EXIT. Going back into the AE I realised that now I could "Take other EXIT" at that switch and the path ran into the Loop and stopped halfway inside again. Marking the End point in the Loop as "BROKEN" and DELETING it againActivity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 6caused the return Player Path to go all the way back to the SHELBY dead-end where it stopped the first time:Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 7Manually throwing the switch leading into the Shelby Loop would let the Player train repeat the whole exercise, which took my souped-up Santa Fe Explorer doing an average of 260 mph 2.5 hours to complete, but getting stopped by a RED signal approaching Shelby. Could not test going into the Shelby Loop a second time because of that.I hope that all this is of interest to some, trying to run Player Paths through Reverse Loops ! FREESTYLE / Short Player paths activities in Manual switches routes of course allow the Player to enter Loops at will and go anywhere after leaving them. This exercise was to allow me to do something else while the Player train tested the route ! O t t o

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

It can be done, it just matters how the loop is set up. At times you cammot from one side of the loop but you can from the other.

One addition to this I've noticed, is the fact that on mine, you are 'required' to go in one way in Activities (which you can do and make a complete 550 mile run West to East and back to beginning), but the opposite way in Explore mode. After all it's MSTS .. go figure RobertR .. ADF-M&RM at http://www.adfrr.com

It is my experience that reversing loops, when the work, only allow traffic in one direction. If you want an example of a reversing loop that works well, check out Sea View 4 and the associated signals updates. Coconut Island is, I believe, a reversing loop attached to a Wye and it works. Also, do not have Activity Editor automatically recalculate any timetables if the path goes through a loop. This will cause the Activity Editor to hang. If you have a passenger stop you have to run through the activity and set station timings manually.Cheers,

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

Hi Gary> It is my experience that reversing loops, when the work, only allow traffic in one direction.Actually, all you need to do is to throw the switch into the loop with Shift+G - MSTS gets a bit confused by loops, and it always considers the switch into the loop to be behind the train, even when you approach it.Otto, you might get a green light into the loop using shift+G, sometimes (but not always) it even works when the switch into the loop is several switches ahead from your position - MSTS still thinks it is the one right behind you. Otherwise, add a two-way intervall signal halfway through the loop and see it that frees up your absolute red. Just worth a shot, I think.Great finding about tricking the AE into accepting paths through loops, btw. Cheers, Lukas a.k.a Swissie

Remove them then...
So that the route can _really_ be prototypical, as is claimed...(or put in some discretely placed wyes, like in Whitefish 5 and Sweetwater)

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

Remove what ? The Loops ?The original MARIAS-3 comes with a reverse loop at Shelby and we have added another one to the new Atholl end to allow players to turn their long freight trains around, also adding 6 3000 metres WYE sidings for additional reversing of the direction of travel along the now 360 miles long route.Don't get me started on the subject of "Prototypical" !Is it "Prototypical" to get sent home for not blowing your horn at Level Crossings or getting sent packing because you ignored a RED signal, not causing an accident on a remote, lonely stretch of track with no other train on the entire route ?Is it "Prototypical" for Front couplers not to work the way they should, or couplers break intermittantly, or Manual switches not open their trailing blades for approaching trains in Freestyle Activities, or reversed locos at the rear of a back-to-back set not have their headlights working ?And that is just for starters !Got any more helpful suggestions ?O t t o

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

Yes, quit being full of yourself, it is getting disgusting. Freestyle activities have no purpose, get trainz as that is its speed. It is like the layout under the christmas tree, go round and round with no goals. Goals are good. While it may not be totally real to get booted right away, it will catch up to you. Ignoring a RED is serious. You will recieve many phone calls until you have the meeting with the TM and are sent to the house for x number of days, if you get to keep your job.

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

What disgusts me is newbies coming in with their sillyassed opinions of how the oldtimers express themselves. And freestyle activities have whatever goals the player sets for himself. It's a game, not a training device.Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 8

RE: Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops

Thanks, Jim ! I could not have said it better myself ! These newcomers, mostly being kids, should hang around the Forum a while and learn who is who and what is what before they voice an opinion, making sure they do not outstay their welcome ! Too many oldtimers have left getting tired with that sort of response ! I myself have been on the brink many times, had it not been for some of these characters getting removed from the Forum and me not having anything better to do ! To refer to FREESTYLE Activities in that way, you being the master on that subject and creator of one of the best non-prototypical routes around, is certainly a mistake on their part. The route I am testing using this non-stop 2-way reverse path is my friend's Frank Carver from Perth extension to the MARIAS-3, hopefully living up to the former's quality, I am helping to improve as much as I can, borrowing Fir trees from your route, I hope you do not mind. Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 9Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 10As it is a 360 miles long route now, I have added 6 WYEs with a total track length of 3000 metres each to allow long freight trains to be turned around all along it's route:Activity Player Path through Reverse Loops – image 11users can extend in the RE if they feel enterprising !

Hopefully available in the File Library in October after I got BROADBAND and after the dust of the PON-9 release has settled, we can not compete with in any way ! Take Care, O t t o

I do not agree with Sniper or Otto here. Freestyle routes are not everyones bag, and newbies are allowed an equal voice on here, as it should be. If posts have a reasonable opinion, they should be accepted as such. There is no who is who, and no hierachy here I hope.David

That's not the point, David."quit being full of yourself, it is getting disgusting."I don't know how that could be interpreted as anything other than a flame, if it was supposed to be a joke it's not an obvious one and should have been accompanied with a smiley or something. There are a few members here who post stupid stuff that don't interest me, but jumping into a post and flaming someone just because you don't like the topic or don't like the way they talk is troll behavior, pure and simple. "Don't feed the trolls", one of the few things I have in common with Chuck Schneider is I don't subscribe to that platitude, I eat trolls because I enjoy the feel of their bones crunching in my jaws.Saying freestyle activities suck is an opinion, saying "quit being full of yourself, it is getting disgusting." is trolling.

Wonder if he already deciphered the flags in post #8 - thanks for the hearty laugh here, Jim, hehehe.Lukas a.k.a SwissieBtw1 - Loops are great: They prevent the unexperienced simmers from falling off the side of the earth when they hit the sudden and unprototypical end of the route. Now if they deserve being saved is another question. Btw2 - Luckily our "oldtimers" take newbies light-heartedly (most of the time). A big cheer for that, and next time, I recommend sending the weekly "I-know-it-all-after-12-and-1/2-posts" troll to Old Grumpy, the yard foreman in Middle Boondocks Central, for a one-year internship! Btw3 - Just felt like dumping my counterfeit 2c here before the post gets its inadvertible lock-up...
