If you have run Conbuilder to test your Locos/Wagons, and clicked the Test Sound Files box, you may well have ended up with thousands of errors. My installation was so bad that I unticked this box and ignored it, thinking these errors were probably mis-reported, and MSTS ran OK, so why worry. However conversations with Tony Formoso and Bob Latimer changed my mind, so I had a closer look at the errors reported. The first thing you need to do is to add the flag -soundtest to your MSTS icon's Target box. Then when you start MSTS, you will be advised of missing .wav files every time you load an activity, this will show you how bad things really are, most of the sounds which should be playing probably are not, simply because the person who modified the .sms files had no idea what they were doing, especially if you are using Common.Sound aliased files.I have therefore added a new option to the Route-Riter Beta v6.0.06 update which is available at http://members.optusnet.com.au/virtualtrains/beta6.htmlThis allows you to select all the .sms files in the 'List all Filtered Files' box under the Graphics tab, and to Fix all Sound Aliases in these files (as well as replacing quotes around .wav files which Conbuilder reports as errors if they are missing). On my System, this reduced Conbuilder sound errors from 6500 to 660 for locos and 650 to zero for wagons. The remaining errors were caused by sound files which were missing altogether, spelling mistakes etc, often fixing one of these dropped the total errors by a hundred. It took about 2 hours with a text editor to clean up the whole lot and I now have a system on which Conbuilder reports no errors at all (apart from Cab files, I have not looked at them yet!)RR v6.0.06 is still Beta software, so take care and read the installation instructions before upgrading v6.0.02 onwards. This latest version now includes Okrasa's new compress/uncompress .dlls so is faster for Checking Routes etc., however it does require that you have Microsoft .Net Framework v1.1 or later installed.I have also added a function to correct the case of Engine/Wagon names which COnbuilder reports as errors. Please advise of any problems, suggestions etc.
Mike

RE: Fixing Conbuilder reported sound errors

OK, I just installed 6.0.6 and when I tried to set up new ENV files on any route, (and I have unstored everything in Train Store) I get an error message stating that the route is not a valid MSTS route. Any idea what I did wrong?

If you have clicked on the Environment tab, then double-clicked on the Route Name in the left hand folders window. Then the only way that error message will appear is if there is no .trk file in the route's main folder.Mike

Wow, Mike, RR is really a Swiss knife!
Isn't it time to change the name to MSTS-SwissKnife? Thanks for the update. Really appreciated.Dick van den HovenFixing Conbuilder reported sound errors – image 2

RE: Fixing Conbuilder reported sound errors

Mike,How did ANYONE run MSTS before Route-Riter?!? Like you, I also ignored that myriad of sound errors that Conbuilder reported. And like you, I'm sure that I have a bunch of garbage that just begs to be cleaned up.As usual, this latest update sounds like a real winner! I can't wait until I get home and have some time to try it out. Thanks for a great utility!Henry

RE: Fixing Conbuilder reported sound errors

It has been pointed out that if a .sms file was not in Unicode (it would not be working in that case), then RR 6.0.06 would lock up etc.I have changed it so that it now checks each .sms for Unicode first and if ASCII it converts the file before processing it. v6.0.07 is on my site as above.Mike

RE: Fixing Conbuilder reported sound errors

HI Jeff,Sorry about the use of the .Net framework, but I tested Okrasa's new .dlls and they were about twice as fast as my existing routines, so I thought it was worthwhile. Particularly as the .net framework downloads with your Windows updates these days, most people would have it installed already.Mike
