I have not seen that error before.
Do you have any utilities like Route Riter (for checking routes)
and conbuilder (for checking rolling stock)
If you are nearing 800 consists, then its time to get Train Store. If you want something quick, reinstall MSTS.

Actually this has appeared a number of times before and actually refers to the PAL files in Global\Shapes. In practice though, it can be that almost anything is wrong or missing in the Global\Shapes directory.Frequently this has occurred when an add-in track set, such as Xtracks, is installed to an incorrect location and a Standardized Global Tsection.dat is present in the Global folder. It can also occur though when files are inadvertently deleted from Global or Global\Shapes.regards,
charlie

Yes Charlie, I had it a number of times too ! Usually for reasons you mentioned, not being careful changing folder contents or support files when BETA testing overlapping versions of what I am working on. An out of sync Tsection.dat was the cause of one incident.Has been mentioned a number of times in the Forum, some threads got lost but here are a couple !http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=20340&forum=DCForumID3http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/dcforum/dcboard.cgi?az=show_thread&om=22446&forum=DCForumID3O t t o

Hi 60024kin,in case the global folder is not the malicious cause for your problems, I may add that I had this error message repeatedly also under other circumstances, involving the list of file types in windows.Have you by chance recently installed Adobe Photoshop or a patch to it? Unfortunately the file extensions .act and .pat are used both by Adobe Photoshop and by MSTS - albeit for different file types, of course. For this reason, Photoshop users also get Photoshop-related icons showing inside the Activities and Path folders of MSTS, and double clicking on an act or pat file in a MSTS subfolder accidentally fires up Photoshop with subsequent error message that the material pallette / the samples file was damaged and could not be loaded (which is logical, as an MSTS .file is no Adobe Photoshop Material Pallette!).Maybe your MSTS shortcut got "mis-wired" to Photoshop during an update or similar. Make sure that your MSTS icon points to the correct folder, by right clicking on the icon and looking up its properties:"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\launcher.exe" -rungame
for the game and"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\launcher.exe" -runeditor
for the Editors (copy/paste that in with all the quotes if your shortcut got reset). That's about all that I can come up with currently - I've seen that "material pallette error" myself a few times, mostly when I accidentally double clicked an .act wanting to edit it in WordPad, only to go through the lengthy wait until Photoshop has (fruitlessly) tried to load and quits with said error message...Lukas a.k.a Swissie
