I'm currently working finishing up a second version to one of my earlier models in TSM. I rebuilt it from scratch with no issues. Actually got a better model with less polygons. Along with the new model came new textures. Once I got the model textured up, the hierarchy all set up. I converted the model just like I have done with others in the past. Now the weird part.According to the conversion report everything went fine. I went into SFV to make sure everything was were it was supposed to be. When I loaded the s. file into the program... NOTHING! No model is shown. The box at the top counts 0 polys...I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on the situation. so I can get these models to the paintshop and into the file library.

Paul I've tried that and I still have no luck. Sim will lock up and then I have to phone home... The weird thing that I can't figure out is. It told me that I didn't have the blank ace file in the folder. I didn't use a blank ace file in the project... this could be the problem but even after I install the blank ace it still wouldn't work... I don't know...

RE: TSM Help

The blank ace would be used for untextured polygons.I have had your problem before and it turned out that one of the objects axis was not centered to the object. It wouldn't display and would lock up in the sim. I would go through your objects and make sure that the axis for each part is centred to the object except for your main part which is centered to the origin.

RE: TSM Help

I'm not totally convinced the pivot/origin point of the object makes a difference, but it may be possible. My own experience has shown me that MSTS is rather unpredictable sometimes, and you really have to dig to find the problem. Are any of your parts made from previous parts? Tsm will allow you to combine parts with different textures. The problem is that it "remembers" what the textures used to be. This is one way you can get a error for a texture that you didn't think you used. In many cases I have gone in to the texture tool and found the "clear all polygon textures" activated. This, despite the fact that no textures were specified. At other times I have had a similar problem when that wasn't activated, so it's not consistent.Sometimes a part is very small and complex. MSTS can't handle it and will crash. This seems to be particularly true on handrails and hoses. The part needs to increased in diameter. The only real way to find out is to run through all the smaller parts one at a time. Save the model and then tear out the parts you suspect are causing the issue. Keep generating the S file until MSTS "accepts" it. It's a pain in the butt, but it's really the only way.I have started to add most of my smaller details in FreightAnim tags. This way I can comment out the details if the sim crashes. It makes it way easier to trouble shoot.Hope that helps,Frank MusickMoving America into the 19th Century!

RE: TSM Help

Another thing I just thought of Keith...if any animated parts like wheels are named the same...I mean if you have 2 #11 wheels, something like that anyway, or if you have both bogies listed the same, like "bogie1" on each bogie, the thing won't load either.Just a thought.Paul Fowler

RE: TSM Help

I've had a lot of problems with materiels i.e. alphnorn, solidnorm etc. I save the TSM project under a new name and merge all the parts into the MAIN part except for trucks wheels and the cab interior. The specular lighting (SoildHiShine) effects don't work in TSM and will crash the sim.

Ok guy I've had a bit of time to try out your suggestions. None seem to work. I have however managed to ge the model into the SFV with the blank texture applied. I went back an tried to apply all the textures again and got the same result that I started with. So i'm guessing it's somewhere in the textures but I can't figure where. If someone has TSM i could send everything over and you could take a look at it and maybe see something that I'm missing... let me know.

I've got a General Steel Corp bulkhead flat(the ones with the lattice bulkhead frames) that did the same thing, nothing I did could get it to convert, apperently sometimes the TSM gods curse your project.Gary S

RE: TSM Help

If nothing else helps, you'll have to build from scratch, giving the project a new name and rebuild with the old parts. Save often, put wheels under it and convert to TS and run it in TS. Just use the Main part or frame or whatever you have underneath for the wheels/boogies and try it a few parts at a time. When you came to a dead stop, you should have an idea what part is bad.
I always build that way. You know then if things work or not.

RE: TSM Help

I`ll have a look at the problem if you want to send the files over to me at wispatalb@bigpond.com
If it is a texture problem it could be that one of the more complex parts is drawing off a template that is being used by many other parts all in close proximity to each other.
I had that problem with my latest loco, I had made up a veritical pipe which was placed next to the main body and was textured from the same template, MSTS wouldn`t load the loco in until I retextured the pipe using a different template. Sounds strange eh! but it is MSTS were talking about Regards
