Ok, Mark, I just saw the new teaser on the 3D TrainStuff site about the soon to be released "Vintage Trains over Tehachapi" add-on. Is the the one that will have the Cab-Forwards? Will there be any other vintage freight equipment included? Can you give us a couple of hints as to what will be included? You already have me sitting, waiting, credit card in hand, ready to buy. I hope your concept of soon is better than some of the other advertised routes and add-on's that seem to have been hovering in the wings for months and months.

Got my attention...We really need a payware class route / package - designed from the very start - with Steam and 1rst generation Diesels - and - matching rolling stock... I'm really kinda shocked that it has not been attempted before now... At least that I am aware of...For me - that has always been the most interesting era in railroading... Looking forward to that new route by 3dTrainstuff... A pair of Cab Forwards competeing with a quad of F Units to haul freight over the mountains... An express passenger train being led by a pair of PA1's - zipping by... Now that's what I am talk'n about!!!Marc's F units are the best - now if I could only figure out how to get some realistic weathering on them... Sigh... How about it Marc - any plans for seriously weathered F Units ??? !!!Anyway - just my 2 cents...Regards,
ScottOBTW - can anyone provide a link to the teaser ???

Yes, the ATSF FTs and Cab Forwards will be featured in the new add-on along with new vintage rolling stock including the famous Espee Owl passenger trainset. The 16 actvities are almost done, and we should be ready for release around the 27th of this month. And in case anybody is wondering, yes, 3DTrains and 3DTrainStuff has joined forces and are working together on several projects now scheduled for release over the next eighteen months..here is some of them..Vintage Trains Over Cajon Pass, Donner Pass Route, CSX Mtn Sub Route, Beaumont Pass Route, 50s Cajon Pass Route, Interstate Route, and the Wisconsin Central Route.. all are in various stages of development and use ScaleRail including Donner.. and there are also numerous plans for trainset and activity add-ons for all of these routes as well.Btw, Donner is getting very close to beta, and I'm pretty confident now that we will be ready for release sometime in October..it would have been sooner, however, we decided last Spring to go ahead and duplicate the heavy snow conditions (up to 25 ft. in places) along the route during the Winter which added alot of extra work and development time to the project. We have also added alot of interactive abillities (for actvities) to the route as well..the end result is going to blow our customers away..this we are sure of Best regards,

RE:

In my glee of reading this the first time, I completly missed the Beaumont Pass Route. As I spend at least a couple of mornings a month sitting in a parking lot off to the south of the mainline going through Banning I have a request. Please include the little 40 car rock train with the two AC4400's that shuttles back and forth from the quarry to the cement plant. It usually hits the top of the pass going east between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., and a couple of times I have seen it stop and wait for westbound traffic to clear before heading down to the quarry. I havn't seen the hopper cars reproduced anywhere before so I hope you guys will include them with the Beaumont Pass route.

Or should be to most of us. Bruce

Sounds like some great plans are in store for you and us down the road. Its always great to see what can happen when two parties join together. Looking forward to the next 18 months, even if it is a long time to come, the above mentioned projects sound like they will be well worth the wait.Chris Bogley

RE: The Beaumont Pass Route

the only good part of Beaumont is West Colton-Indio, they cut the helpers in Indio and its just boring desert running. I loved Beaumont when i visited near the end of SP, great area.

Well, I absolutely applaud this temporary merger but not so much for all of the great routes and great stock and activities that will come out of it but for the sim itself. Having two very fine payware groups plan something like this means one thing to me, and that is that they don't believe this sim is dead yet and to me that is more important than all the routes they plan to do. We are talking eighteen months or more for all of this to happen and that says to me I have a lot of railroading to do in this sim in the future. This should hush the naysayers who have pretty much laid this sim to rest. There is a lot of things going on with the physics of this sim, there are a lot of things going on in route creation and in the overall quality of the rolling stock as well, so I think there is more yet to come and these two groups will use the best of it to create some excellent work. So, to me, despite those who don't like payware groups, and let me say on record that I am not nor have ever been against these groups, this makes a big statement on the future of this sim. I hope that those who are on the sideline or on the fence deciding whether or not to leave because they think this sim might be dead, will take a second look now at this news and stay around. Because I think we are going to see some great stuff coming from the combined camps here.
I certainly applaud the decision, I think it is great for everyone in both groups, for the sim itself and for us end users. As far as I see it, this is a win win situation altogether. My congrats to both parties for their ability to pull this one off and give us all something to hope for for the future of this sim. So my hats off to Brad and Marc for this great news. Thank you from a delighted enduser! Tim"May the great BNSF 38 pumpkin carry you to your new home, Cyndi and may you engineer her for an eternity"

>the only good part of Beaumont is West Colton-Indio, they cut the helpers in Indio and its just boring desert running. I loved Beaumont when i visited near the end of SP, great area. For several years now the helpers cut-in/cut-out at Thousand Palms. Rarely do we go all the way to Indio with a helper nowadays. You say it's just boring desert running huh? (I guess you mean between Indio and Yuma) Have you ever:1. Seen the Salton Sea which the route skirts for 27 miles?
2. Seen Algodones Dunes which is just south of the tracks for 38 miles?
3. Climbed up Iris hill a 1% grade with a 10000 ton train with only 2 AC units at 9 mph?
4. Blasted through the S curve at Mortmar siding at 70 mph?
5. Sat 3 hours in Bertram siding waiting for opposing traffic? Oh wait a minute that one is boring! Desert yes. Boring no!It will be interesting to see which era and what part of the route 3DTS chooses to reproduce. As an added note another section of multiple mainline was cut in on 8/1/04. It is now multiple main from just east of West Colton yard all the way to Garnet (Palm Springs) now.PatchCrew

When my brother inlaw was here he said they had that section almost ready. Do you think it's going to help. He didn't seem to think so until the new crews get up to speed and they hire even more.I did like the story about haveing to put the UPS stuff on trucks because of to much traffic, not enough crews, and trains on the law from one end to the other. It shouldn't be to hard for 3dts to sceneic it, a whole train static consist tied down on almost every passing track sounds about right.

Hey Patch, I apologize, I havent been out there since 1995. As I was only 15 and a mountain railroading fan, I appreciated the climb through the orange groves a lot more. I'm sure as a more seasoned railfan, I could defenietly appreciate what you said more

Hey Brad?....I'm curious as to what type of open autoracks will be included with the donner pass route?I'm thinking that they will be the older style bi-level cars that hold 6 autos (like the HO models) as opposed to the 60's era tri-level cars that hold 12-18 autos.Bill Bzak aka Longhairedwizardwww.lhwfoundries.com

Tremendous news Brad! I've got to plan my spending over the next year or so. You guys are busy!Keep up the great work and I'll be waiting for the add-ons and the routes.By the way, maybe a little farther down the road or so, perhaps a route like the CSX/C&O New River/Allegenhy Sub or the NS/NW/Virginian from Roanoke to Deep Water, WVA?
