Long Hood Forward Cab Views – image 1

Here's a two-parter:Is there any basic LHF cab floating about? I've got a fistful of various N&W Alco units plus N&W 1776 rigged for LHF operation, and I'm trying to figure out some NS LHF action. Trick is, all the cab views I've got are from the short hood forward perspective.Part two: If there's not something out there that'll do, does anyone have suggestions as to how I'd go about getting the hood image to insert into an existing cabview? (And at the same time, instructions on how to insert it would be appreciated, since I don't know how.)Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, an NS D9-40C won't help here. What I'm trying to accomplish is the production of an LHF cabview for the following locomotives and liveries:Alco RS11
N&W 'Hamburger'
PC StandardAlco Century
N&W 'Hamburger'
N&W Pevler Blue
N&W Fishwick BlackEMD SD45
N&W Bicentennial
SOU Standard FreightI've recently come into sufficient data to make my NS LHF fleet work, I think. That does, however, kind of leave me hanging with the above.I was hoping that some sure-fire quick method or file already existed, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Therefore, the bright idea that I had was to get shots from a '5' view of what the engineer would see, and I've started that with SOU 3109. From that point, I was figuring to merge clones of the Don Crano cabviews (or other appropriate existing view) with the new LHF screen shot, and go from there.Unfortunately, I haven't the foggiest as to how I'd do that.

RE: Long Hood Forward Cab Views

I have done several LHF views for my older GN equipment. My method is to adjust the head out view to match the cabview and then move it forward until it is just outside the cab. Then a take a screen grab. I then TGA2 a copy of the front .ace for the cab I want to use, bring it and the screen grab into Photoshop, cut what I need of the screen grab and paste it onto the front view, adjust the alpha mask as required, "re-ace" it in tga2, and off we go. It also helps to have a screen grab of the front cabview while sitting in a yard or someplace with several tracks going straight to the horizon, be cause the perspective of the cut in piece of the first screen grab may have to be adjusted so that its vanishing point matches that of the tracks. RE: Long Hood Forward Cab Views

I'll try to get some screen grabs up this weekend in a post. Let me look at the cab I started with and see about permissions before uploading. I hadn't really given much thought to uploading one of my cabviews before. I sure don't claim they are especially good or anything. Even in worst case I ought to be able to get you the Photoshop file from before I flatten the image.Brad Meyer

RE: Long Hood Forward Cab Views

The N&W cabs had dual control stands that were set up to where if you were running long hood forward you would still be on the right side. I know this is true on the N&W 1776 because I was just in her cab yesterday.
