I am trying to change some of my wagons over to the new MLT sounds and so far i can't figure out how to make it work, is their only one line to change at the bottom of the wagon file? And how do you change it to work with the MLT sounds? I have never done this before Engines no problem, but have never tried the wagons!
I don't have the MLT sounds, but since "speculate" is my middle name I'll take a SWAG at it. There are two types of sounds involved, the .wag file has (usually) a single sms file listed at the bottom, which does the squeak-squeak-rattle sounds, plus stuff like the compressor from the TA 1.2 reefer. If that's the one you mean, you would just change "genfreightwag2.sms" at the bottom to "MLT_rattle_clank.sms" (or whatever the name is) and that wag would now sound like the MLT wag.The other sound associated with (but not related to) the trains is the track sounds, for that copy the ttype.dat and \Sounds folder from the route with the cool track sounds to whatever route you want to hear them in.
John: The .sms files that the .wag sound calls for are located in the MSTS main directory, Sound folder. Be sure the MLT sounds are in there. Both .sms & .wav .John CYNDI RICHARDS 1938 * 2004 You will always be here with us.
I changed the 3DTS SD70M sounds to the sounds by MLT. It was a bit tricky but I did figure it out.First I found the MLT sound required folder. Now the way they have the sounds set up is a bit different than most locos I have seen. Then I copied the sounds folder including the SP and Unique folders to the 3DTS SD70I then named the SMS file to the 3DTS specification in the sound folder. I then also had to move the train whistle files into the sound folder.Leave the other files in SP and unique. Your SD70 should now roar and ring the bell. I am not sure how to do it with rolling stock I hope that helpsBobFlorida Railfan Page http://www.geocities.com/Kentucky86.geo/Boston MBTA Railfan Page http://www.geocities.com/BostonMBTAKentuckiana Railfan Page http://www.geocities.com/Kentuckyrails
Hi,Actually, MLT creates a sound folder in their Freight folder. Their sounds are not in the main sounds folder. You should be able to change the sound lines to: Sound ( "..\\..\\MLT_Freight\\SOUND\\MLT_welded1.sms" )Note that there are 3 versions to change the randomness.....every few cars, change the number ......welded1.sms, welded2.sms or welded3.smsThere should be no reason to have to move the sound folder to any other location.Let us know how it goes.Bryce
Forgot to mention that there is a really good sound aliasing tutorial over at 3Dtrains.com's forums. I would like to give you the link, but the site is apparently down for the moment, so I can't go find it right now.Edit: check out this link:http://www.train-sim.com/dcforum/DCForumID3/24292.htmlEdit 2: I just realized you are the person who started the link that I just referred you to. If you are having any trouble with this, send me a private message. I'll help if I can.Bryce
I want to let you all know that BUSDRIVER is right, and for those who have cascades crossing and want to change their wagon sounds, ( "..\\..\\MLT_FREIGHT\\SOUND\\MLT_welded1.sms" ) and then do welded2 and welded3 every so often. by changing the last line in the wagon sms to the above is all it takes! I think their sounds are the best yet!! Thanks again for all your good help, its really appreciated.
