I have done a complete new install of the latest Sview program. However, when I click on an .s file in my MSTS Trainset folder, the Sview that pops up is one of the much older .exe files from Sview. The one that pops up does not have the current Sview parameters and inclusions. Not only that, but if I make a screenshot from the Sview window, that .jpg apparently has been lost to cyberspace. A computer wide search cannot locate it!After installing the latest Sview (into the Conbuilder folder, as suggested by Conbuilder), my desktop shortcut icon will take me to the new folder where Sview was installed. And, if I take a screenshot, that .jpg is there.I have done the registry fix as suggested by Decapod but it does not help. The latest Sview program works in Conbuilder as advertised. But, I don't always want to go to Conbuilder to take a screenshot that I can later find. Nor do I wish to click on the desktop Sview shortcut icon, then go into Explorer to find an .s file, etc, etc. I want to be able to click on the .s file in the folder I am working in ang have the screenshot in a folder I can find. How can I get rid of whatever is causing the problem whenever I click on an .s file and continually get an older version of Sview and then being unable to locate the screenshot?Hope all this is clear enough, but I am in a frustrated mood right now. Thanks very much.Bill Cline

RE: SView Problem

Use explorer and go into your trainset folder, pick an engine or wagon and open the folder, does the .s file have an icon that looks like Sview? If yes then it is associated and you don't necessarily want that. Conbuilder does not need a copy of it in the conbuilder folder, it just needs to know where it is. If the association is there, it needs to be removed, it just causes problems. How to remove the association is another matter entirely.

RE: SView Problem

Joe,Yes, the .s file on any wagon does have the Sview icon. I agree, that is the association I do not want. I even went into File Associations and tried to make the .s file associated with the latest version of Sview. Didn't work.Somewhere on my machine Sview is using the old version and I have no idea where it is.Wonder if I should get into the registry and simply (hah!) delete all references to Sview, then reinstall it?Bill

RE: SView Problem

Bill,By any chance, did you uninstall the old version of Sview before you installed the new one? The reason I ask is that the old .exe can't be called up if it isn't there.BTW, I did nothing to my existing Sview when I installed the new ConBuilder. I just referenced the proper folders in the ConBuilder configuration settings and it works absolutely fine.Bill

RE: SView Problem

Hi Bill,I assure you, except for going into the registry, I had deleted any and all files which might have contained an older version of Sview. However, since one of the older Sview .exe files operates when I click on an .s file in my trainset folder, that old version is still somewhere in my system. And at the same time, if I use the .exe for the new version, that brings up Sview in the latest version.I am stymied!Bill

RE: SView Problem

Hi Bill !Find any .s file and right-click on it.You should see an option called Open With.If the SView program is not showing then BROWSE for it and select it, ticking the "Always use the ....." box.If that still brings up the older SView then do a SEARCH and see how many there are and delete the older one, especially the one which could be in the Route Riter Folder. The only one like it there should be a SViewrr.exe. Try again ! Still not luck ? Then it could be that there are multiple entries for SView.exe in the REGISTRY, which happened to me once, installing BETA versions one after the other. In that case un-install the one which is showing in "Settings / Control Panel / Add / Remove" and then remove all remaining entries referring to SView.exe from the Registry, if you know how to do that. Then install the SHAPE FILE VIEWER version 1.3 again. I think that's the most recent I got and select it again to OPEN .s files with.O t t o

Bill,
You do not need to install Shape Viewer into the ConBuilder. Don't know where you got that idea. You just have to tell ConBuilder Where Sview.exe is. You dont have to put it in the Conbuilder folder. Mine is in C:\Program Files\MSTS Shape Viewer\SView.exe
