Available as from right now from the train-sim.com library:MSTS BNSF/UP Route Whitefish 5, Sandpoint & EastportConnects westwards from BNSF routes Marias Pass resp. improved Marias31. A major update, rework and extension of Route Whitefish 2 (BNSF Kootenai Subdivision) after Charlie (Chuck) Dollins and Matthew (Batt) Smith, by very friendly permission. Track laying and scenery deeply revised using accurate USAPhotomaps data, DEMEX, Quebec Berms, mostly prototypical BNSF speed rules, many new objects, animations, now features distant mountains all along. WF5 adds detailed 65 miles of Union Pacific (ex Spokane International) from Sandpoint to Eastport/Kingsgate at the Canadian border, via Naples/Bonners Ferry, then up the scenic Moyie River valley, and the first five miles of the planned BNSF Stryker-Eureka branch.
Compact package by OldieDaddy.
By René RumpAlso released 2 additional model activities, using only default stock for your immediate enjoyment :*WF5WATCH.zip, from UP/Spokane Elmira you can follow an eastbound mainline BNSF within often visible distance for 48 minutes !New Route Whitefish 5 now online ! – image 1*WF5WTRF.zip, running a freight train from Whitefish yard all the way west to Sandpoint GN yard: on your 5 hours job you're meeting 21 traffic trains.
Requires prototypical engineer patience against single track hauls with heavy trafic against.Just to encourage you to develop more (better) activities for WF5.WF5 took René many months of devoted and accurate work.Announced WF6, already on the bench, should include a full extension from Stryker to Eureka, the old line before Libby Dam construction, and more corrected topologies around Libby, Sandpoint, ...
Will take a while, so ENJOY Whitefish 5 !Please post remarks here, or use the mail feature of this forum if you feel like offering any solid information, documents, constructive critiques & hints.N.B. : WF5 comes as a full standing Route, does not overwrite WF2, nor the WF3 variant by Hawk Pettersson, an interesting different approach.
Looking forward to harmonize !Love and Peace

That sounds excellent! I've always looked forward to trying to merge the two existing routes (but am tied up in one and another route project, so hadn't started yet). Thanks to all of the original and re-work authors for their devotion to serving this community!CheersLukas a.k.a Swissie

Just run both installers as there pointed to the correct path.I had no problems with it and it looks pretty good so far,but they still left that bridge at the west end of Whitefish yard .Last I was over there it was a truss bridge over a creek with a gravel service road underneath.Just Rollin Down The Tracks

RE: New Route Whitefish 5 now online !

Hi OldieDaddy:Wishes do come true! I just this minute finished parking a train in Sandpoint and musing how nice it would be to continue on westward. Lo and behold, I find WF5. Many thanks to you, Rene and all.Question: I don’t see a Readme. How about some install instructions and anything needed prior to installation, if applicable, before downloading by the more timid among us like me? Best wishes,Al

RE: New Route Whitefish 5 now online !

Hmmm, south or westwards from Sandpoint, that could take a while in neatly rebuilding for MSTS...
BNSF so called 'Funnel' to Spokane, SI to Spokane, GN west/northwards to POVA PendOreille Valley, you'll have to be patient for a few months at least..Why not, in the meantime, discover the UP/SI line Sandpoint/Bonners Ferry/Moyie Springs/Eastport ?
You didn't have this available in WF2/WF3 !Love and Peace

RE: New Route Whitefish 5 now online !

Thank you for your responses.I'm one of those "don't know a whole lot" folks who finds it better to avoid potential problems, rather than trying to dig myself out of problems created. That's why I always appreciate having a Readme available when I click on View in the File Library listings prior to downloading a file. I appreciate your help and look forward to enjoying this talented work.Al

Hi Moritz,This is another nice route, and I have just posted 44 screenshots of this route, but have swapped the tree files from whitefish3 to whitefish 5 to get it more like Hakan's superb Whitefish3 and of course with better looking trees.Mike

RE: Question

LAST EDITED ON Aug-03-04 AT 08:36 PM (EST)

Nope, this is the chunk from Whitefish westwards to Sandpoint, BNSF Kootenai Sub, with newly added UP/SI line from Sandpoint to Eastport over Bonners Ferry, and BNSF Stryker-Trego-(Eureka); USA2 and improved Marias31 have not been reworked. They'll get you from Shelby to Whitefish. In Whitefish you'll retrieve a few tiles to ensure smooth takeover.See no real point in a doubtful merging. Some time you reach the bulk limit of what file compression/management (and the Route Editor Tool) can reasonably handle.
Please realise that author René is more interested in +/- true geography/topology rendering than miles & miles & more miles.
He's an artist !
And the act/task time on a haul on WF5 reaches up to 5 hours.
Very few users would run this on a single shot. So reload anyway.
Please also consider MSTS limitations (loading time, bad RAM stress, sound bugs, frame rates,...)Planning WF6 (around XMas), should keep under 70 MB download.
Will encompass full way to Eureka, reworked terrain around Libby and Sandpoint/PendOreille Lake, possibly a few more miles towards Spokane on both BNSF and UP (to Athol ?).@ Mike Sinclair:
Yeah, an optimisation of WF5 at the light of some WF3 vegetation textures will be strived at, keeping bulkiness in mind.
We are in touch with friend Hawk...Love and Peace

RE: Great job

I just installed the route, and explored all of it in the route editor. I must say I'm very impressed of the job considering what the developers had to go on. That said, there are a number of things that could be changed to make the route even more accurate. I plan to make a number of custom buildings and bridges, plus revise some of the tracks and roads where warranted. For some recent photos of the prototype, look here:http://www.railroadforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=248Ted Curphey

RE: Great job

Appreciate your contributions, we'll keep in touch.Well, a MSTS route will never be 'real'. But getting close is nice !Preempting, yes, we know that Kootenai Falls are wrongly placed (in reality where the helicopter is, a mile eastwards.)And a plexiglas covered footbridge crosses Kootenai Falls siding there.
And there is a tight canyon downstream. And China Rapids are missing.Difficult to correct all, as water levels are set for a full tile.
Reconstructing would make the Falls invisible from the train. Thanks !Love and Peace

Hi Claude,No just a simple file replacement: just copy the Texture and Shape files that you can see listed in the screenshot from the Whitefish3_Hawk route, and paste them into the corresponding Texture and Shape folders of the Whitefish5 route, then click Yes or OK to an overwrite.Mike

ClaudeNope! I did the whole route, and no problems. Rene is one of those sensible designers who don't plonk trees right up to the tracks, so there were no problems. Mike

RE: Great job

Warm thanks to you all who like & praise this Route !Now, a route is not only a 'look at & bin' scenery candy.Routes remain alife and prosper with interesting and challenging ACTIVITIES.Have done 2 myself, in the library as WF5WATCH and WF5WTRF, just to demonstrate what kind of exciting stuff can be developped there.Encouraging all act writers to get active on WF5 !You see, no real need to use dozens of heavy downloads.
Most impatient users would get refrained if more than 3-4 required.
Add a couple of typical UP engines, an Amtrak service, and marvels can happen ! Love and Peace

Patch to make it work????I don't think I've downloaded and installed a route so easily in ages! You need to let us know exactly what you're doing.I just clicked on the two .exe's and did as it told me - ran the install.bat.Took me longer to sort out my favourite BN & BNSF consists in Train Store than it did to install the route. You have to have all 6 standard routes installed, and don't forget to "Unstore everything" if you're using Train Store, before doing this.GeoffP.S. Glad to hear the trees all swap over O.K. I was delighted to see the route but a bit concerned that with so many versions we might loose the plot activity wise? P.P.S Love the animated activities! Just one small fix if possible? The racing yachts are great fun but seem to be packing some horsepower as well as the sails..... Can they be slowed down?
