I downloaded the Santa Fe U23B from AlabamaRailfan.com and when I go into my consist editor, I get a error report when I try to choose it. Anyone know what the problem is?

RE: Loco problem

Thanks for the help. Now heres a stumper. I downloaded a CSX SD40-2 from AlabamaRailfan.com and the Microsoft Train Sim add on pack that adds some freight cars and a BNSF SD40-2. I wanted to use the cabview and sounds from the BNSF loco that worked fine and use it in the CSX SD40-2. It worked on the BNSF SD40 and NOT the CSX. Everything was labeled properly. What happened?

RE: Loco problem

Did you remember to go into the .eng file of the BNSF SD40-2 and change the old .cvf and .sms files to the new ones?

RE: Loco problem

This is really making me MAD! In my Santa Fe FP-45 cabview folder, it reads FP45_SF1.cvf. My engine file FP45_SF1.eng. They're the same. Someone care to explain why it still doesn't work? Sorry if that sounds rude. This is really frustraiting.

GrandTrunkFan,The name of the .eng file and the .cvf file being the same has nothing to do with it. You have to open the .eng file with a unicode editor (Wordpad) and click the binocular icon. Type in "Cabview" (without the quotes) in the box and hit Find Next. You'll then see the name of the name of the .cvf the .eng file is looking for.BillPS A word of advise...the Consist Editor that came with the sim is a piece of junk. Download ConBuilder (a brand new version went up in the file library today} It will help you find the errors, instead of mysteriously shutting down and it will also alias your cabs for you.

RE: Loco problem

GrandTrunkFan,I checked both Alabama Railfan CSX SD40's. Even though the .cvf files say sd402, the cabview is aliased to the default GP38. This file should have worked off the bat, but if you have moved or deleted the default GP38 it won't.Take it easy, it took us months and months to learn this stuff...it isn't going to happen overnight.Bill

RE: Loco problem

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! No one told me the .eng file had to be opened with wordpad. Thats where I was confused. Thanks again. Is there any way to change the CSX Sd40's horn from the GP38 to the SD40?
Thanks Again!

RE: Loco problem

Sorry, I had to search my files for an answer...I haven't had the the default SD40-2 for years. The easiest way to use the SD40 cab is to delete the Cabview folder in the CSX SD40 folder, then go to the SD40 folder, in your Trainset folder and copy the entire Cabview folder over to the CSX folder. Since the .cvf file names are the same no other changes would be necessary. If you want to use the the SD40 sounds, you will have to copy the Sound folder also, but you'll have to modify the .eng file to get it to work. Open the .eng file in Wordpad, do a search in for "..\\..\\gp38\\sound\\gp38cab.sms" and replace it with "sd402cab.sms" (keeping all the quotes). You also have to change "..\\..\\gp38\\sound\\gp38Eng.sms" to "sd402eng.sms"You have now had your first lesson in aliasing, but it is a lot easier with ConBuilder.Bill

RE: Loco problem

Okay, I think I know what you're talking about.
First go into your trains/trainset. Then go into the CSX SD40-2 directory. Then open the .eng file in there with wordpad or MS Word.
Scroll until you find a line that starts with "Sound: (
Then change whatever is in the brackets to the equivalent file from the BNSF SD40-2 directory. Do the same with the cabview.
Then, exit the .eng file and copy the cabview and sound folders from the BNSF SD40-2 to the CSX SD40-2. Answer yes if prompted to overwrite files. Then when you play, the CSX SD40-2 will (if you did it right) have the cabview and sounds of the BNSF.
Oh, and don't forget to make a copy of the .eng file before you messed with it, just in case you mess up. And that's the process of editing and renaming the cabviews and sounds.
