I've uploaded a set of five major trestles of Marias Pass into the file library. You will need to use the route editor to install the trestles and alter the landscape. But these trestles are realistic and far better than the crap provided with MSTS. I used my own photos and personal experiance in creating the bridges and the surrounding landscape.http://www.train-sim.com/cgi/kdl/main/22/mp_trest.zipTed Curphey

RE: Trestles of Marias

Many thanks, Ted.I long ago replaced the default bridges with Picardi ones, but now I will be replacing those with yours. Really appreciate your hard work and contribution.I've really enjoyed your FunnelFan website as well. A lot of folks don't realize it, but Whitefish2 might not have transpired without it.Thanks again,Matt

RE: Trestles of Marias

Ya know, I'm reworking my Hi-Line guide o not only cover Sandpoint to Crossport, but all the way east to the Flathead tunnel. But it will take some time to finish the guide. I was away from MSTS for a bit, so never installed Whitefish 2, but I recently installed Whitefish 3 which I understand is more or less just a scenery upgrade. It's a better representation of the route than MSTS's was of the actual Marias Pass. But still there are things that should be done here and there to make the route more realistic. The worst problem is probably Sandpoint, where the tracks needs a reconfiguration. As it is, the track only looked like that in Sandpoint for a very short period in the early 1970's when the new connection track was being built. The other problem is that there are now too many trees in many areas, The whole route is not a corridor of trees, there are many open areas as well. I have photos of much of the route, and can make many add-ons like the Sandpoint station, and the Lake PDA bridge, in fact I already made the Sandpoint Slough bridge.Anyways, below are more photos of my Marias Trestles.Ted Curphey

I keep forgetting to mention that there are low poly bridges. Through the inventive use of transparent textures, I was able to keep the polys really low. So the effect on your frame right would be akin to adding another boxcar to your train.Ted Curphey

RE: Trestles of Marias

Thanks Ted, Centuries ago, when I lived in Helena, I spent many hours foaming along the tracks between Helena and Blossburg. Course my memory has dulled quite a lot since then and I'll take all the help I can get. Appreciate the offer and I'll send you an email shortly.Matt

Being a complete idiot when it comes to the Route Editor, is there _any_ chance that somebody that has managed to successfully put these trestles into the right spots in USA2/Marias31 may upload the edited .w-files as a route update?

Leiv Eiriksson was first - Christoffer Columbus used a Viking map!

RE: Trestles of Marias

I’ve only place one bridge so far, and it took a bit of effort to get all the angles adjusted just right. I did not adjust the terrain, just dropped the bridge in. Below is the java.s bridge on the Marias 3.1 route, and the entry in the World file (w-12556+014759.w). What you MIGHT be able to do is to open the w-12556+014759.w World file in Wordpad, do an Edit/Find for US2trestle2.s, then delete both complete entries for US2trestle2.s, and replace the one entry for US2trestle1.s with this: Static (
UiD ( 80 )
FileName ( java.s )
StaticFlags ( 00010000 )
Position ( 246.856 1223.63 -636.711 )
QDirection ( -0.0136285 0.884894 0.00220768 0.465588 )
VDbId ( 4294967293 )
StaticDetailLevel ( 0 )
)
Of course, make a backup of the w-12556+014759.w before attempting this. I made it a Static item, because the first time I attempted to cross the bridge as a CollideObject, that’s exactly what happened, I collided with it.If anyone else has done the other bridges on Marias 3.1, maybe they could publish the World file entries here and help the rest of us get these great bridges in place quickly. Thanks for the bridges, Ted.USRailFan, I could not upload the .w file for you because I've made other adjustments, mostly I've added cantenary wire supports.

I'm going to upload a set of my World and Terrain tiles that were modified during the period I was installing the trestles on my route. This should allow people to install the trestles with much less effort.Ted Curphey

Whitefish 2/3/5/6

LAST EDITED ON Jul-28-04 AT 08:04 AM (EST)

HelloWithin very few days Whitefish 5 will get released. It features tracks relaid for large sections, as well as adding Sandpoint-Bonners Ferry-Eastport (Spokane/UP Line).
Author René had well noticed significant deviations around Sandpoint.
Also Libby and Stryker stations/yards, and the location of Kootenai Falls.
This has not been corrected, but parts could get rebuilt in further versions/extensions.WF5 is less densily forested than WF3, closer to prototype using USAPhotomaps, and also leaving most of north banks unforested, to better enjoy the views towards Distant Mountains, and retain acceptable frame rates..Photos ? Documentation ? Sure interested to use any precious info to use in Whitefish 6 and higher, possibly continuations from Sandpoint south/westwards !
Too late now to build into WF5, which is in the process of getting compacted to 53MB for web release....Love and Peace

And for the copyright people, I did attempt to publish just the link to this picture, and have been able to do that in the past, but for some reason, the picture displays in this post. I am not attempting to steal the picture, or claim that it is mine, but for some reason, I cannot publish just the link. The link is "http://www.gngoat.org/glac02.jpg";, and the quotes are there to prevent two displays of the same image.

RE: Trestles of Marias-world tiles add-on

A small problem has shown up with the world tiles add-on which is now avaible in the Files Library. Thankfully it's easily corrected. You will probably need to rename the Cutbank trestle to make the world tiles work. Specificly:1. Rename Cutbank.s to Trestle2.s
2. Edit Cutbank.sd to point to Trestle2.s
3. Rename Cutbank.sd to Trestle2.sdAnd that should solve it. Please post any other problems, and I'll see what I can do to fix it. BTW, is there anyway to replace or edit the .zip's that have already been uploaded to the File Library.Ted Curphey

There is also a "trestle.s" that is missing. One is at Shelby (on the ground) and two at Cutbank (about 11,000m high). All of them are easily deleted in the RE (just say "yes" and Save).Edit: You can make the corrections/modifications, rezip using the same zip file, and reupload the file. Nels will overwrite the first file with the new one (remember to state that its a fix as well).
